my 2000 PSD Has a habit of stalling after long (2hours at 110km/hr) and when you slow down for traffic either in the city or in back ups it has a habit of stalling out, It did it the first week I had it (nov/03) while turning onto my street. The dealer replaced a sensor, it was under warranty and I was so rushed I never asked exactly where or which sensor it was. Its done it a few times since. Its alway in wet or rainy conditions. There is no Shuddering or shakes, Just quits. Just have to throw it in nuetral and turn the key and it fires right back up. Its not happening enough to need to rush it to the dealer Waiting for some regular maintenance to come up before I go in.
i have a 2001 with 135,000 on it and it JUST STARTED recently "shutting down" in the middle of traffic! its always when im going real slow, no shuttering, pinging @ knocking, NOTHING, just quits runnin. i just changed the fuel filter, emptied the fuel/water seperator, changed the air filter, i cant find a fuel leak anywhere, and i just recently cleaned the injectors a few months ago. im friggin baffled at what could be happening. there arent even any warning lights that come on in the dash. but i will keep searchin for the problem. if u find anything give me a holler.
thanx,
I have this same problem with my 2000PSD. I did a lot of research and have come to the conclusion that the cam position sensor is the problem. about 80 bucks from International and 10 minutes to change and away goes the problem. No Worrys Mate!
COULD the cam position sensor cause the "CHECK ENGINE SOON" light to come on b/c it happened the other day but get this.............after it "shut down" i wuz coasting down the road and instead of shifting to neutral and firing back up i left it in "drive" and touched the gas pedal a few times. keep in mind that it completely shut down on me, but after i touched the gas it sputtered a little bit and then cranked right back up! it was the wierdest thing considering its an automatic but after it cranked up again the check engine light came on for the first time. its off now though.
My 99 was having the exact same symptoms and from this site I had determined that it was the CPS then it tripped the Check engine light and I got my code reader and it said it was an intermittent Cam Position Sensor signal. Replace the CPS and no more problems. Oh! definitely get the part from International it is half the price of Ford.
