Help with powerstroke coolant conditioning

Reposting in this forum

Hello,

Can someone tell me how to service my 2001 F250's coolant conditioning. I bought the coolant additive and it says not to add it to the overflow tank. I am using the 3 in 1 test strips and as close as I can tell matching the colors the level is at 1.0. Where would I add the conditioner I don't see a cap on the radiator?

Also, where is the fuel filter located that should probably be changed. The truck has 37,000 Mi.

Thanks
Pat

Pat, It is OK to pour the conditioner into the plastic tank that you see. That is a pressure cap that you see on top and is part of the cooling system. It is not considered an overflow tank. On my '99 the fuel filter is located front and center on the top of engine. Under the plastic cover that removes with two nuts you will find the fuel filter.. Hope that helps, Carroll Allison

The fuel filter is in the same place on every 7.3 PSD, right where calli said it is.

You have to add the SCA to the degas bottle, the radiator dosen't have a cap. Personally, I would add two bottles.

If you are at 1.0 sca, 2 bottles will put you at 2.2 sca which is perfect.

Or, do a good flush and put in the extended life "Gold" coolant.

Zerex makes it and sells it through Pep Boys and Auto Zone.
Gold container GO-5.

I saw where Prestone just came out with it too.

Both meet the Ford specs. I think it's about $9.00 gallon.

Thanks

Any tips on how to flush? I would imagine starting with draining the radiator. Then run the garden hose in? What about the block.

By the way, the antifreeze is very toxic to dogs and cats. They love the way its tastes sweet. I raise labs so just thought I would throw this out for others following along this thread.

Thanks again for the advice.

By the way I added the 2 pints of the additive. I'm planning to check with the strips again soon.

What about these antifreeze filters that I see mentioned. Anyone have experience with these? Where are they installed?

??
