I found that I had fuel sitting on top of my engine and finally using a mirror I found that the source of the leak was the water senor on the fuel filter housing. The sensor is located at the very bottom of the housing on the back side. I could see a drip drip there so I tightened it and though it had stopped. Next day I'm still smelling deisel so I look and the #$%$^& is leaking again. I tightened it again. Still leaking. I finally realized the fuel was coming THROUGH the sensor! I pulled the sensor out and put a plug in it's place until I could get a new sensor. Well, I call the auto parts stores and they all say it's dealership item. I called the International dealer and he says it's a dealership item. I call the local Ford dealer and the guy says I've got 6 on the shelf. They are $55 plus tax . Well after I told him how I felt about that price, He said "You know, this book gives an International number if you want it." I said "hey, yeah that would be good". He gave me the nuber, I called International back. Yep we can have it here tomorrow....$14.55! .Now here is the really strange part. They both have this sensor listed as a "vacuum switch.... part number 1809435c1. Anyway, I got it, it's on ,don't leak and my wallet suffered only minimal damage.
I get a bit obscure sometimes but have been in the trucking business in one way or another all my working life (since 1974). I just thought I would give a semi-intelligent and semi-related answer to this semi-interesting thread.
