I have a 2000 Ranger with 3.0 5 spd I head that you could fit a lighting's engine into it I was wondering if that could happen if not what would would be the biggest I could put in there. I'm looking to have a Ranger that can fly.
Back in 2002, Ford SVT Team put a supercharged 5.4L V8 in a Ranger, just for kicks.
To accomplish that, SVT engineers lowered the Ranger's front suspension by two inches. Lower control arms and steering knuckles from the F-150 Lightning were added to beef up the Ranger to accept the heavier powerplant. It all fit under a stock Ranger hood, but the transmission tunnel and bulkhead were slightly reworked for clearance. (Taken from MotorWeek Article).
A more common swap for the Ranger is a 5.0L. But even that would not be something you could just bolt up to your current configuration.
Uh, if you didn't get the idea, SVT with their gobs of money from Ford took A LOT of time and money to make the Lightning Bolt.....so much that the Lightning Bolt is a CUSTOM Ranger. It is a Ranger in NAME ONLY! A 5.4L will not fit on any other Ranger in existence, unless the LB somehow has a clone.
Anyway, the Exploder 5.0L woiuld bolt in in a sense, if you scavenge a whole drivetrain, minus the AWD t-case (yours is 2wd, right?) and you get the right engine plates for a 2wd. Check rps to get the plates.
