3.0 stroker?

I have a 97 ranger with the little 3.0 in it ... Ive seen stroker kits for all sorts of motors but I havnt found any for the ranger 3.0 .... Would the crank out of a 3.8 work to stroke the 3.0? If anyone has any ideas or any contacts that could help me please let me know.

The easest way to stroke it, would be to swap in a 4.0, there is really nothing out there for the 3.0 to speak of. The 3.8 is a different animal, parts won't interchange. If anybody could help, it would be supersix motorsports, give them a look see.

If you look it up online, Morana V6 Racing has a 3.3L stroker kit for the Vulcan, I just inquired about it last week.

Unless your pockets are alot deeper than mine and you have 4k burning a hole in your pocket, the cheapest thing you can do is a "poor mans stroker". I had a reputible shop offset grind the rod journals .025" and another .005" for cleanup and am running .030" under rod bearings. With a .030" over bore, it comes out to 3.1 liters, with 0.0" deck height, and calculates out to about 10:1 compression(aka premium fuel). I am running a Cam Craft regrind cam at 210/210 @ .050" duration with .470" lift at the valve. I have not had it on the dyno since I took out the pos a4ld trans and put in the 5 spd, but I talked to a guy that works at the Ford Lima plant a few months ago, and he assured me that with my setup I am at or just over 200 ponies. Best part about it is I get 23 mpg's in town with the stick trans!!

It still seems cheaper to me just to swap in a 4.0, and there's alot more performace stuff for the 4.0 as well. You could even do the 4.0 cammer motor cheaper since they have been using them in the exploder since 97, or 98 I believe. At 207 hp, thats about the same as a stock 5.0, not as much torque but it does come on sooner.

67blueford! 3.8 is wide, but narrow. It was disighned for low cars, but some parts are interchangeble (see part nombers). It is possible to use Mercedes pistols and cylinders to increase HP of 3.0 (of cource it will be 3.4 ore 3.6 engine), but these parts are avaliable in Europe. ANd this operation requires many modifications (to describe modifications I need 3-5 pages). But there are many aftermarket parts to increase HP of 3.0. The first step - to use raicing camshaft and dual valve springs, the next step - rebalance crankshaft and rods, the next - use light pistols (original size is 88.9 mm 96 is limit for this engine, and remember if you have 96mm pistols, block may crack in case of overheating, so the engine is not reliable enought).

Wanna more? K&N intake + powerchip!

Next step - manual tranny.

there's alot more to doing a 3.0 to 4.0 swap. trans, wiring harness, motor mounts, computer. all of this is different and would have to be changed it would be easier to get a new truck that had a 4.0 in it. just my opinion

Yeah...it would. But Texas is pretty retarded. It has to be a newer engine than the one being swapped out, which limits him to EFI only, and still pass inspection including emissions.

Been there...done that. Got a beautiful 302 getting ready to go for my Ranger if I can ever find a hole in the laws.

Unless he lives here in Wichita Falls or a small farming
community. We don't have emission testing. The engine
swap field is wide open here.

Oh you lucky son of a gun.

I get sniffed every year, it's a city thing though. Dallas, Houston, etc. Of course I live in Collin county, which is right on the border, the counties next to us don't have it.

It's the one thing holding me back from going pretty much all out with this 302 swap.

Emmisions

Well, as I drive for JB Hunt out of Dallas and love to hit all the half-price books in the area, I sometimes wonder how long it will be before the various cities start mailing me tickets. I'm currently driving a 74 Mercury Montego that's been in my family since new and sometimes at various intersections, especially around 635, Dallas has they're portable sniffers set up. I may have to start killing the engine and coasting past. Not that I'm a gross polluter (the car has all it's emissions gear hooked up), but with the cities hurting for money, they might one day start sending tickets to out of towners! Of course, I think all 25 year old vehicles are exempt from emissions.
