does removing the cat make your check engine light come on? I know it does on my ranger.

I have a true dual setup from the headers back. They both run down the passenger side, inorder to get around the gas tank. Duals after the cat will offer no performance improvements over a good single exhaust, except they may sound better and look good. Hope this helps

After the cats will offer a slight improvment because of the lack of back pressure after the cats. is slight, like 5hp, but not a large diffrence, and there will be a noticable improvment in fuel milage, i have found this to be true on not just my truck but i put the summit exhause on a few of my friends trucks and the majority got about 1 to 2 miles better to the gallon.
CHRIS_CE yes on some obd II computers the check engin light will come on, i know cheyvy its 96 and up not sure about ford, but my trucks an 87, and it dosent have an ecm, its a carborated truck so it dosent know it has more power. and no cats.

I have no problems with the computer on my truck and I have no cats. If you take the cats off You will run into problems if you have two oxygen sensors, one before the cat and one after. you won't have a problem if you don't change this. There are Oxygen sensor simulators that you put in place of the second sensor to keep the computer from setting a code.

you cant remove the cat without the check engline light coming on, on a 95 or 96 f series because there is 2 o2 sensors. 1 before the cat and 1 after. the 92-94s are ok, they only have the first sensor

I have a 99F150 4.2 V6 I ran dual pipes straight off the cats (stock had 2 already with a collector for single muffler) and out the passenger side like the lighting. It sounds BAD ***!! I have noticed a decrease in power and an increase in gas guzzling. Although this could be because I like the way the engine sounds up around 4000 RPM.

well i can see that then if you go to small and try to force the exhaust out of it, but what size are you running after the cats?
