Hello All, got a question on installing a boost guage. If you didnt want to cut a tee in the mapp line where would you tap for the fitting the cold side turbo pipe? ive heard the y pipe not sure Anyone have any pics ANYTHING WILL HELP CANT FIND RIGHT ADAPTORS FOR TEE CUT IN HEARD THAT WASNT THE BEST SPOT ANYWAY DIESEL DUMMY
hey guy (i'm hesitant to call you diesel dummy), i've never heard that its not ideal to T into the MAP line and if it is all the same Its much easier to get to that line and tie in than it is to drill and tap the intake. No need risk introducing shavings in the intake if its not necassary. I tied into mine a couple of days ago and it took about 3 minutes start to finish!! If you absolutely want to tap into the intake, the Y pipe is the place to do it.
OK sold where did you get the adaptor to go from hose barb tee to the 1/8 th in compression fitting tubing that the guage requires. all ii was able to find was the straight hose barb vacumn tee at the dummy zone i mean auto zone I hope you know what i mean on this adaptor problem also do you remember what size vacumn line that was going to the mapp? thanks again and yes i am a diesel dummy
You could always get the fittings you want at a hardware store. You're on the right track tapping into the MAP line. When I bought my gauges, that's where the instructions said to put it, and it's also where I've got the boost line for my propane system.
I got the parts for mine at Home Depot, Brass T, 2- Brass barbs that screw into the T and an adapter to connect the line from the gauge. Hope this helps.
Thats a little tricky, what I ended up doing was going to Reeders and getting a brass T with three female threaded openings ya know two on the ends and one on the top for the T. I'm not sure what size the female threaded holes are, but the hose adaptor that came with my boost kit fit right into the T. Just make sure you get the T brass connector that will fit your kit. (I brought mine with me to Reeders). get two brass hose fittings that will fit the T. The hose end of the fitting needs to be 1/4. Atleast for my 02 MAP line. That should do it for you. If all else fails, Start with the Female Brass T fitting and find the parts that will make it work. I didn't know exactly what I needed until I went in and started building the T. It cost me 7.95 for the T and all the fittings and like I said only took about 3 minutes to install. Just make sure you cut the Map line straight and whatever the length of your complete fitting, cut the line a little narrow. Cut to much and your in trouble and will be headed back Reeders for more adaptors. Good luck. Don't do something you don't want to do though. If you wait around a bit, someone else will chime in and give you their opinion and possibly a better or easier method for which ever way you choose to install. Hope it goes well.....
Thanks guys I'm a plumber for a living and never thought about building a brass tee from the hardware store guess i was thinking its for the truck so it must come from a parts store it all seems very easy now i sure do feel stupid now for not thinking of that brass is probably much better than that 5.00 taiwan plastic thanks again guys really appreciate it diesel dummy
