Brake problems????????
Guys I have a 1988 Ford f150 with the inline 6. My problem is my brakes are very easy to grab or want to lock up when you apply them. I thought maybe there was air in the line so I bled the line and no help. If it is wet out it's twice as bad need this problem fixed. All help would be much appreciated.

So Cal Its the rear only as far as I can tell. Mostly the one on drivers side but seems to be both. If its wet out they will lock up in a heart beat when applying it's hard to drive like that when raining. Hope this helps.

A common problem on 8.8 axles is the bearing wearing into the axle surface, allowing oil to get past the seal and get on the brake shoes. There is a repair kit available at parts stores to fix the problem, but I have never used it and know nothing more about it.

Sounds like maybe your rear brake shoe springs are worn out and not retracting the wheel cyl piston firmly. Also, if the shoes are very worn or the mechanism is too far out of adjustment and the piston is forced to push out too far in the cylinder to push the shoes against the drum, it could be having trouble going back in. If not in the rear brakes themselves then I would suspect the brake proportioning valve.

i have an 87 which had the same problem, it turned out to be a bad axel seal...gear oil was leakin on the shoes causing them to grab...if you do replace the seal be sure to buy new shoes...and while you there you should also replace all the hold down and return springs, the whole spring kit costs about $20...good luck :O)

I don't know if this makes a difference in any of your responses to this but the rear antilock light has been on since I got this truck. Today was really bad everytime I hit the brake the driver side rear tire would grab bad almost locked down. Also there is no fluid leaking around the tire on any of my wheels?

hey all my 92 2wd the fronts lock real easy on snow ice and any other surface the tires can slide on....i think the rotors are warped becausen there is a slight wobble while braking.....i plan to replace the rotors ,pads,drums,shoes,and hardware when i get a little more money in the pay checks
any ideas are appreciated
