I recently got bucket seats from a ford probe to replace the bech seat, I was wondering if anybody has any good ideas on installation techniques. I figured on using some square metal tubing to rasie them up and some welding and then to finish them I would weld diamond plating to the outsides where I used the tubes.
Check out my gallery to see just about the same thing, i did this about 8-10 months ago. I didn't bother with brackets etc in my application...but i didn't keep the seats long either.
I think the diamond plate and everything else would be great...but why not find some bronco seats and take the tracks off of them, so you don't have any fab work really, except drilling a couple holes if need be and adding the diamond plate.
Yeah the bronco seat mounts are the easiest way to go, they fit the cab floor as the bronco and F150s are identical, at least that part. And the tops of the mounts are square and easily adapted to.
I actually mounted a set of bronco buckets without mounts in a courier, thats how I became familiar with them. I'm going to buy a set for my F150.
I put a pair of Subaru seats in mine, it just takes a little fab work. If you are going to weld to the seat, be sure to protect the foam, so it doesn't go up in smoke. Have a fire extiguisher (or hose) handy, and use wet towels to keep the sparks confined. Also, keep an eye on it for about 30mins after you weld it, to make sure there aren't any flames waiting to build up.
