Unhappy plastic plug in tranny pan

Today I changed the oil and filter in my 2001 f150 with the 4r70w (I think thats what it is) transmission and when I pulled the pan off there was a plastic plug with an o-ring and a 2" stem in the pan and I can't figure out why it was there. Can anyone give me the answer?

It was a dust plug for the dipstick hole. They are punched thru at the factory when the dipstick is installed. Just throw it away. It is normal for it to be there.
