My understanding of the disabling of the PI by FMC after talking with techs and doing some reading on the web is this:
The PI main function was to decrease engine noise a idle and possibly slightly lower emissions at idle. Main function however was to lower enginer noise at idle. Unfortunately the PI caused problems of rolling idle and premature injector failure. Since PI caused mechanical problems FMC disabled it. Therefore the motor is now louder at idle.
Personally being louder is not a problem for me. I much prefer mechanical stability if i have to choose. IMO i think to much is being made of the noise at idle issue. Many people, me included put headers and louder exhaust on our gas engine vehicles for the increased sound and some performance gains. Additionally there are diesel owner who are removing there muffler altogher for increased sound and performance, go figure.
Yet we have manufactures and some of the public trying to quiet the diesel down. Now i am not against quieter motors if they don't suffer mechanical problems from it.
BTW the Duramax motors are replacing all injectors at 100-115K because of wear,as normal maintenace, do to the high pressures and PI. Personally if turning off PI in a Duramax would increase injector life i would be all for it.

blackhat620- Dude...I'm with ya. Nice explanition. I knew it had something to do with the noise and like ya said who cares....as long as it's not sounding like a Peterbuilt I'm ok. After all it is a diesel. I just wish I could have taken delivery of mine today...damn....there going to swap out the 12.5 hitch for the 15k too....
Black Hat your last two posts have been very informative, THANKS
On the noise issue, with half of all the new cars sold in europe being diesel and things trending that way here, a lot of folks that have never been exposed to diesel noise (except being next to a Kenworth at a light) are purchasing diesels. Ford and others are trying to remove objections and meet new emissions standards.
There is an article in this months, I think, Car and Driver that goes in to this and explains how GM is going the hybred route instead of disesl. I think it was Car and Driver, I read it while I waited on my wife.

You could tell them you would take a $5,000 rebate and a can of Krylon!
Bob I heeya...but I gota say the rest of the world is ahead of the game on the noise side.. I was just in Korea and drove a rental truck for a few weeks and when I want to gas up, this Korean lady cam running over and ripped the nozzle out of my hand....here it was a diesel and we had no idea. It was so quiet even with the hood open you would not beleive it....and ran like a bat out of you know where. It didn't say diesel on it either...well maybe it did but it was spelled like....^(@$@!....can't read Korean. Heading to Okinawa next week...I'll let you know how the Jap diesel sounds..

Very cool...and the weather in Korea in February! It's the emission standards, mainly soot that's kicking their butt.
Choctaw Bob sure has trouble realizing that a lot of 6.0 owners are unhappy. I think he is either a die-hard Ford fan or somehow connected with FMC. Perhaps he has no problems with his rig and doesn't understand what all the fuss is about. However if Ford has truly fixed the problems that plagued some of these engines, they would be wise to advertise the fact. This could be done in a face-saving manner such as saying, "Visit your Ford dealer today and test drive the new and improved 6.0 PowerStroke diesel." Ford must know there is a lot of negative flack floating around concerning this power plant, and so if they have in fact overcome the problems -- no matter how few in number -- they should say so. Because saying nothing is hurting sales. I am a potential customer for a new F250. However I refuse to even test drive one until I am convinced by Ford (and not some stranger like Choctaw Bob) -- that they have overcome the problems. If they fail to do this by the time I get around to buying (and I'm in no hurry), I'll most likely spring for a Cummins-equipped Ram 3500.
I've recently checked Dodge out and unless I'm mistaken you can't get a 9900# GVWR SRW (only 8800#) from them which doesn't thrill me. I'm thinkin' on a slide-in camper.

if you order a new one and you are going to put a lift on order a f250 and save the difference between the 250 and 350 and apply it to your lift you know the only difference is the block in the back
I lost you on that one, also I had a rancho leveling kit on my 2000 and it really worked nice, handle better and rode better 2.5 inch lift and new shocks.

I was thinking the same thing about the 250.....the 350 drive shaft is different along with the block.
The rancho 2.5 kit is the one I am thinking of getting....did it level it enough?
