I want everyones opinion on wether you think the guages in the super-dutys work? oil level, oil pressure, and temperature. Also I wouldn't mind proof if you can give it. Thanks. Benjamin
Hey Man. Don't be so hard on me!!! I don't think that any of the guages work properly. But I have to prove it to my brother. If you know what I mean. He thinks they work, I think they don't. Benjamin.
The gauges work. They all move into the normal zone when the engine is running.
Did you mean do they give you real data, that you can use? The fuel gauge does, the voltmeter sorta does (it does move around, but it's very insensitive), the oil pressure gauge has two positions, normal and zero, the engine temperature does, kinda like the voltmeter, and if you have a factory transmission temp gauge, it works almost like the voltmeter, but it has three positions, very cold, overheated, and all other temperatures.
Nup, they don't work. You can tell just by watching them, they don't move. If you've ever seen a real oil presure gauge it is always moving. You don't have the same oil presure at idle as you do at 3000 rpms yet ours never move. The oil pressure sender is just a pressure switch. It's either on or off.
Somehow they've even screwed up the volt gauge. Turn the key to on, look at the gauge, start the truck and look at the gauge again. It's still in the same place! There is at least a 2 volt difference between a non running truck vs a running one yet the gauge doesn't move at all.
Engine temp gauge is also junk. Once the truck reaches operating temp the guage stays at the same spot until you reach 250 F and then the guage will peg. There is no in-between.
It's one of Fords better ideas.
