Did you change the fuel filter? if it ran on starting fluid, you my have a clogged filter. It is along the
main frame between the wheels on the drivers side.
Still have a dead Explr in the driveway!! TTT (tow truck time) is fast approaching...
EEC relay? Think I replaced that also, but not positive. (This crud has been dragging on for so long, I'm forgetting what troubleshooting steps I have and have not accomplished!)
Filter... will check that out too, but that doesn't explain the lack of the fuel pump noise (the whirring sound) usually heard during ignition.
So if one was to reccomend spare relays which ones and how many should they get?

won't start eh ?
I had this problem on my '94 exploder, and at first changing the fuel pump relay did it- but then I bypassed the relay with a switch, this worked for a couple of months..... But alas it reared it's ugly head once again. Then purely out of frustration I changed the ECC or is it EEC (computer ) relay just to see what happened, and that fixed it. I haven't had that problem in over a year.
Now I carry 2 relays in my center console- just in case - but haven't need em yet. They're only $5 each.
Alas.. this storyline comes to an end. I had the $%^&#$ thing towed. The shop ran tests and determined that the pump itself was fine, but the electrical circuit feeding the pump was the problem. The bottom line: they dropped the tank (did I mention the tank was completely full? ) and found a broken electrical connector to the pump above the tank. With my wallet $250 lighter, the mystery is solved.
