You're somewhat right... it's not deadly critical...
but it is important as stated to get the full benefit out of the bar...

if not mounted parallel, the bar is twisting in a different arc than the axle and you lose some of the effectiveness of the bar...

Granted, it will still function, but not as well as it could...

Mine are parallel to the ground as is appropriate with two inches of lift in the rear. One hole open top and bottom. I think Landyot's are covered four over four and his truck is not lifted.

I was wondering if the Hellwig Anti Sway Bar really works. I was thinking about putting a set on my 2000 Excursion. some one also sugested better shocks and air bags to take out the sway from wind and roads that pitch from side to side. MAN I LOVE THIS FORD TRUCK ENTHUSIASTS FORUM.

My experience with Hellwig, they will not sell it .......if it does not improve the vehicle.
I have one, not yet installed, but cannot wait.

My '00 4x2 came standard with a 36mm front anti-sway bar - I assume most, if not all, Ex's come standard with this same 36mm front anti-sway bar.

Conversely, my Ex didn't come with a rear anti-sway bar, and I assume that most Ex's don't have one either. I've heard that some '03 or '04 4x4 Ex's have come with rear anti-sway bars, HOWEVER, the issue at hand is whether your Ex has a rear anti-sway bar or not. If not, then it is highly recommended that you purchase/install the Hellwig Rear anti-sway bar. If Ex has a rear anti-sway bar already (either stock from Ford, or added previously), then this is not much of an issue.

Price is reasonable (like $100 or so).
Installation is easy - it's just a bolt on!

[going slightly off topic]
While you are at it, you should also look at upgrading your shocks and adding Landyot's Radius Bars

YMMV,
Randy R...

I just went to install mine. The 3 hole plate has holes for 3/8 bolts. That would be fine if it came with 3/8 bolts. It came with 1/2 bolts. I had to call hellwig. Now it'll have to be next weeks project.
