Well, I learned something new today. My 70 F100 w/the 302 came with an oil breather cap,the push in type. I got tired of the oil all over the valve cover, and decided to put in a pcv valve. Plugged the hole where the breather cap was, installed the
pcv/oil filler cap and routed it to the air filter. Was going to tie it into the rear of the manifold but Mr.
Parts guy said it goes to the air cleaner. I didn't even know this motor used one! So, all is well and good, It runs a little smoother, and has more power. Still blowing a little out the dipstick, anybody know what causes that?
One line goes to the air filter box to bring air into the engine thru one valve cover. The PCV valve line goes from a oil sep cap on the opposite valve cover then to a fitting in the back of the carb so the engine will pull clean air thru the engine.
Did your vehicle originally come with a PCV; if not, then your valve cover needs a baffle below that PCV opening, fitting or you be sucking oil into intake. If it only had a breather; keep that and get new grommet for cover to stop leaks.

Where can I get a picture of this?
Hmmmm, would the old Chiltons in the library have it?
Hmmmm, since I know it's not hi performance, the only option is worn out. If by blowby you mean oil coming out of the dipstick tube, then that's what I have. What causes this?
Got the pcv valve setup, but only one line. Put a new breather cap in the other cover. It may not be the original setup, but it's better than it was and no more oil blowing.
Make sure that breather cap has a good filter otherwise all the dirt that gets sucked in will go into your oil. many of the "breather" type caps are made to vent gas not to filter the incoming air. Many of the "filter" elements inside are vapor catch elements to try to condense the oil vapor and let it drain back into the crankcase. Some are made very cheap and don't work good for anything.
