Not too sure that I'd believe the ol boy. I bet that's your tranny.
However, if they fix the problem(s), I'd take the extended warranty and not worry too much about "reman" components. Heck, they problably take more time and do a better job when re-building than they do when "building".
Hey NoMo a friend of mine who is a trany tech at the local lincoln mercury dealer said "beware of the green tranny" that's the color ford paints the remans. He's constantly replacing them in fact one vehicle has had to have 3 put in in the course of 1 year. He also told me that due to the low milage(4,000 mi) on my truck that ford will always install a new tranny not a reman. I'm definitely gonna believe the word of a friend I've known for 20 years over a dealership.

Friends "in the know" are an extremely valuable asset. I have one like that- just that he's a Chevy guy. Let's hope they get your truck fixed properly & SOON. :-)
i have a 2000 f350 that i used to love until one day at about 8200 miles check engine light came on. the same day power steering fluid started oozing out of resivor. i took to the dealer and they addressed my concerns by getting light to go off and removing essesive fluid. with in the same day of getting truck back light came back on and steering got noisy, stiff, and locks up when you apply your breaks. i returned a second time with no results. the 3rd time they said i needed a new trans and could not find a problem with the steering. they let me have the truck back until trans arrived. 2 days later i was backing up looking through the back window with my left hand on the steering wheel.when i applied the breaks the steering locked up and jerked back swiftly resulting in the tearing of my shoulder. so lets see, i did get my trans changed and it only took 22 days. the dealers and ford still say there is nothing wrong with my steering after 8 or so visits. i also filed a complaint with the dispute settlement board that ford payrolls, what a joke. they said that they would make the dealer fix the steering. well to this day the steering still binds and loses power. i did file for the lemonlaw about a year ago and it finaly made it to court."I WON" in arbbratration but i'm sure ford will appeal. i just had surgery on my shoulder and now i'm affaid to drive the truck fearing it may lock up again. ford does'nt care. the dealer does'nt care. they just want to sell trucks regardless how poorly some of them perform. i used to ask anybody who owned the same truck if they had the same problems and never found one. although the dealer did have on the lot that did but he could claiming that this is how ford is engineered. i did find out that there was a dealer alert for the steering that was'nt performed on my truck. a good lemonlaw attorny should take of the problem at no expense to you.
yeah I just got another slap in the face when I opened up my mail. It seems the rental company has been charging my credit card, 13 days worth for the rental Ford is supposed to pay for, man when will it end.
I was always lead to believe that most of these "lemon" ford trucks have a misaligned frame, in a few places, that completely throws off every other system and causes all these unexplained and reacquiring problems. If you take it to a body shop that has a laser rack, they should be able to tell you how in spec it is for a small fee. And if it is not, you got something to work with against Ford.
CEEJR, You sound like you meet the letter of the "LEMON LAW" I would get in touch with State Consumer Affars Office and see what they can do for you (if you already haven't). Dont go it alone. good luck.
Got my truck back yesterday in the shop 15 days!!!! they installed a reman. tranny so we will see how long it lasts I also spoke to the General Manager of the dealership and he said he would talk to Ford yesterday when the reps were in town but I called him today and he said he was sick and didn't get a chance to speak with them, so as of now that's where I stand oh yeah I have to bring my truck back because they can't seem to fix the leaky power steering hose.
The piston slap is a known concern because of the short skirt pistons that are used but it should not be excessive and it should go away with-in a minet or so.also if you are using that 5w-20 oil that the dealer recomends, try using 10w-30 I think that other is to thin. I also have heard that some oil filter by-pass valves get stuck open allowing the oil to drain out causing a knock at start-up.anyway good luck.
I share you feelings as well. I have 44,000 on my 2000 F-250 Super Crew and the transmission suffered a complete meltdown. And of course becuase I didn't get the 30,000 transmission service done, they won't cover the cost. I just paid $3200 for a new tranny. Anybody else have this problem. Please let me know. vince@axialind.com
