Just curious. Is there anyone on this board from Massachusetts that has used the lemon law, and if so what is to be expected. I'm so aggravated that my 2001 Super Duty is a junk, it's to the point that I don't want it anymore.
1. Tape left on hood at factory and painted over steering damper missing in the shop 4 days.
2.Both driver side doors hitting and rubbing chipped the paint. in shop 3 days
3.Diagnosed with piston slap engine replaced with reman. In shop 4 days. damage to fender, AC condenser, Leaky power steering hose during engine swap still not fixed.
4. Droped off today. Transmission slipping, not downshifting to first at a stop, grinding noise, O.D. of light flashing.
Has anyone else had bad luck with their trucks? I have 2 friends with super duties and they have not had any problems with theirs. I took delivery on Aug. 31, 2001 and the truck is constantly in the shop, so it seems. It only has 4100 miles on it all I want to do is blow it up. It's tough making payments on a piece of crap.

i need your help!I have a 2001 sd cc 5.4 w/ 5K and i am starting to get piston slap. how did you convince the ford dealer to give you a new motor. Do you have TSB #.should i just let it go and hope for the best. the damage that the dealer might (probably) will do is not worth getting a new motor that from all accounts will probably do the same thing. I only plan on keeping the truck for 3-4 years is this piston slap something that gets progressively worse. any help would be appreciated. fellow m#####
im not familiar with this piston slap, but just the name of it sounds bad. yer piston is slapping the cylinder wall from what i can tell. and that aint never good. can lead to cylinder wall wear, or even worse cracking a piston and putting it through the cylinder wall!:-staun id definetly get it taken care of.
I too am from Mass. I checked the paper work from the purchase of my truck. By law in Mass you were given a document advising you of your rights. Take a look for it. The State Lemon Law informantion line is (617) 727-7780. Damm sorry to hear of your Problems. I had a coworker blow a motor in a new Escape. She went round a few times with repairs and just the threat of invoking the Lemon Law with the Attorney General got her money back for her.
I dont know about Mass but here in TN there has been several people made ford buy back there SDs I for one have had my 2001 in the shop 6 times already for diffrent things it is dishearting I know to pay that much money for somthing that dont work my dealer has been real good about trying to correct the problems and he told me if I have to bring it back for somthing else we will contact ford about buy back. contact ford and your dealer about the buy back plan and dont let them tell you it dont exsist it does I personally know a person who has done this and they (FORD ) treated him very well.
NICKJAKE getting a new motor wasn't that hard after the initial "are you sure that's what you want?" from the dealer. In Mass. the lemon law states "if there is a defect that substantially reduces the value or the ability to resell the vehicle it has to be fixed". I know that it would be very hard to sell a vehicle that has an engine knock so they fixed it.it took about 2 months from diagnosis to get the new motor put in.
CEEJR,
THANKS FOR THE INFO. I WENT BY THE DEALER TO START THE BALL ROLLING AND WHEN I ASKED THE SERVICE TECH, "EVER HEARD OF A PISTON SLAP PROBLEM IN THE 5.4". hIM AND THE TWO TECHS EVESDROPPING LOOK AT ME IN ASTONISHMENT. WE'VE NEVER HAD ONE OF THOSE MOTORS COME IN, THOSE MOTORS ARE BULLETPROOF. yEAH, AND I KNOW WHERE BIN LADEN IS !
fROM WHAT I CAN TELL FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE 1996 WITH THE F-150'S. IN 5 YEARS, AND WITH COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN, THEY COULDNT ENGINEER THIS PROBLEM OUT. I HAVE OWNED ALMOST 30 CARS AND TRUCKS, SEVERAL BOATS AND NUMEROUS MOTORCYCLES AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM OF THIS MAGNATUDE. I SWITCHED FROM GM TO FORD BECAUSE OF THIS TYPE OF GARBAGE. NOW WHERE ?
GO USA
It's just a matter of a couple thousanths of an inch. That's all it takes to make a new motor sound like it has 150,000 miles on it. It's jus a matter of poor QC on Fords part. Actually the parts could be in tolerance it's just that the bore is at the max and the piston's at the min which will leave some slop. Kinda like a race car motor but I can't tear down my engine and rebuild it once a week like a racing motor
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Feb-02 AT 08:24 PM (EST)]My truck is still in the shop for the trans. 11 days now. Once again has any one used the lemon law or actually got to talk to the Ford district Rep. about a problem vehicle? I've talked to Ford customer service and for some strange reason they can't tell me the reps. name it's all handeled through the dealer. It's aproaching 30 days total for the problems my truck has had that it's been in the shop and what really hurt was having to write the check for the sixth payment and not be able to drive it.
Sorry to hear about all your problems. I had a 2000 F250 that was infected with a vibration at highway speeds. After the local guys were finished "guessing" and "working" on it, they called in the regional rep. Even though I was at the shop when the rep arrived, I wasn't allowed to speak to him directly.
When this "expert" rep couldn't diagnose the source of the vibration, Ford just gave up on trying to fix it. However, they did offer me a choice between 6 year/100,000 mile warranty and a $3500 "Customer Appreciation" check. I took the $3500 check and traded the F250 for my current F350 (at a different dealership).
Guess the moral is that you have to keep after them- and there are alternatives to the "lemon law" that Ford can use. BTW, the check was from Ford's SERVICE division- not the sales side of the company. Ask your service manager about it.
That sounds like a plan taking the check and trading the truck in but you must have taken a beating on the trade in. What did the other dealer give you for your truck? I'm really not to fond of keeping a truck that has had a reman motor put in and now they are talking about a new tranny. I hope ford treats me right is the bottom line as this is my first Brand New Vehicle purchase and it is turning into a nightmare.
Yup- I took a beating on the trade-in. But I really didn't want the truck with the problems (there were several mechanical things wrong in addition to the vibration). Ford (or the dealership) just gave up on trying to fix my truck. I pressed the issue as far as I could without going into the DSB. To have demanded more would have required that I spend way more of my time/effort/emotions than the trade-in "loss" was worth.
Hey NOMO I got another one for you. After being reassured 5 times that my truck will be getting a new tranny not a reman. I stopped by the dealership tonight and guess what was in a crate outside the garage door. Yep a 4R100 reman. tranny. I talked to the service guy and asked him if it was for my truck and he said no "I wouldn't lie to you" and proceeded to bring me out to the garage to show me my truck but the door was locked (they were ready to close). My truck was the only vehicle in the shop that was being worked on and I hope it was just a coincidence that this tranny was laying around for another vehhicle.
