Interior Lights/Switch/Sensor????HELP
I have had trouble with this since the day I bought my Ranger. I have a 1999 XLT 4X4. The cab lights stay on for an extended period of time even when the doors are secure, also, my DOOR AJAR light has been staying on now TOO!
I have heard of several other Ford people having this problem too, so I was curious if there was any kind of recall on this or if anyone has an easy fix or an suggestions. Someone told me to get this fixed at the dealership is almost 100 bucks for each door! UGH.
Thanks for any help!

It is a common problem, usually caused by the sensor switches in the door latches getting dirty. I had luck shooting some WD-40 into the door latch then opening and closing the door several times on both my '98's. This doesn't always work for everyone, so several people have replaced the door latches (probably your $100 solution) or more radically cut the wires to the switch and hard connected them so that the light is always off.

At the top of this board is a sticky called "Technical Information".
There is a post about the door ajar problem. Give that a read to see how much of it applies to your truck.
But, thanks so much for your help. I sprayed some teflon spray into the locks, latches, etc. and I haven't had a problem since.
Thanks for saving me 200 bucks! This forum rocks!
