I went to order headers for my truck today from vintage ford, and all they had for it was the 272 Y-block. Is my truck a y-block? I have never dealt with a motor this old so im not sure.
If you still have the original engine, Yes.
They are know as "Y-blocks" because of their slight "Y" configuation.

If it is a Y-block the dist will be in the rear next to the firewall (dash panel) and the rocker covers are attached by two studs protruding from the heads. I believe the original engine was a Y-block.
I have a picture of my 54 merc car Y-block in my gallery if you want a quick look. The three carbs and finned rocker covers are not stock (that was a joke).
Cool, thanks guys. I always thought a y-block was totally different. Im going out with my dad right now to rent a engine hoist to pull the engine and clean er up. Then I get the fun job of sand blasting the engine compartment!
