The air tool above will make the cleanest automotive sheet metal cut. Practice on a junker. If you don't have access to a compressor it won't do you much good.
Ivan, I think even if you used nibblers or a sawzall, and then had the edges rolled it would look perfect. The trick is in using a template and a steady hand. As far as the 44's go...if you don't get them you know you'll wish you had. 'Course, I only run little 42" Swampers for my street tires. 16.5s do suck if you want to air down, which of course you do. We can't grind our front calipers as easy as the Chevy guys do to fit 15s. I think you can get the Iroks in a 17" but since you seem to have coin to fling around I'd just get beadlocks. That way its easy to get the tire you want, you can air down to nada, and they've got several bl's that are dot approved now.
My original plan was to get 17" rims and IROK 39.5's. But if I decide to go 44's I can't use a 17" rim and I have yet to find a 44 that will fit a 16" rim. They all come in 15 or 16.5 and you confirmed my fear on the 15" that it won't clear the calipers. Hmm. What rims are you running Pro? Beadlocks would be cool but my pockets ain't that deep.
you an run 15 inch wheels....you dont have to grind much off the caliper...just get some in front of you and grind till they fit, and then a little extra. My buddy is running 39.5x13.5x15 iroks with the dual piston calipers on the front of his ranger...ill have to look at it closer and see wut backspacing hes running, and how much he had to grind, i might be able to get some pics
....if i could find a buyer for my tires, i would get some 44 boggers and some 15 inch wheels in a hearbeat.....i hate the fear of losing a bead in the back of my head all the time
I'm running 16.5s for the 44s. I don't air down more than 15-18 psi cuz I worry about blowing a bead too. You've got to grind a good bit more of the Ford calipers over the Chevies...I dunno. I just plan on getting beadlocks this spring.
Pro, who makes a DOT beadlock in 16.5? Too many options . . . head is spinning . . . I want to get my rims and tires here soon so I can start working on the lift but I want to make sure if I decide on different tires down the road I won't have to shell out $$ on another set of rims.
as it lists all the main players in the bl biz. Then you could check out the various sites and see who is dot approved. I was gonna go with trailready bl's myself but they are not dot approved.
i run 7psi in my 16.5's but i am also worried constantly about them coming off! My IROK's for some reason are a PITA to re-seat! takes me a few times with a strap and a Bead Cheetah! So i sure as hell don't wanna blow a tire on the trail! I would kill for a set of DOT approved beadlocks! Thanx Pro.
when we rolled my truck(35-40 mph) the boggers dug in hard and got grass and dirt in the beads....so im guessing i almost lost two beads...and that was at 19 psi(street psi)
cutts....no **** about your beads...starter fluid wouldnt even work when they was new
