PRO: it slightly turned it out, but its not really anything noticeable... they are just northern tools brand nibblers, and ive cut out two sets of 76-79 fenders so far
Originally posted by ivanribic Hey Ho, if you get a chance, with that fancy newfangled camera you've got, will you snap me a close up shot of your front and rear fenders when you have time? I'd like to get a better look. The new picture makes them almost look like factory fenders.
I'd always been against chopping, mostly because you see so many people do a crappy job of it and I don't want my truck looking like a kindergartener's art project. But ho's truck looks tough as hell sitting on those 44's. I'm seriously considering going this route. I would see about having a shop roll the edges so they look clean but I can't imagine it would cost all that much.
I also like the idea of not having to lift my suspension so much and keeping a better center of gravity. Now here's something else to keep me awake all night . . . contemplating what to do.
thanks for the compliments....i would be glad to get you some pics next time im at home....heck i got the digi cam on ebay for 69 dolla. If your going to go the low route....dont even waste the time buying a lift kit.....go ahead and get a set of rear springs to put up front so it will push your front axle foward/ride smoother and flex much better. MY "hybrid " packs probably are not going to work out well due to being too soft, i think im going to have to break down and buy some 2-4 inch lift rear springs and put them up there.....i just dont know yet.
a FISHY....im ready to come hack the crap outta your fenders any day of the week, all you gotta do is say the word
Theres a guy who came up to one of our big mud bog out here with a cherry 72 highboy...rust free, dent free, new paint, had a 429 thunder jet in, he had just bought it last month...cleanest I'd ever seen. He'd mentioned he wanted to put big aggresive tires on like we had, but didn't have the money for a lift and the tires after buying the truck. Next bog he shows up in that super clean highboy with his new 40's AND with his fenders raggedly cut out with a torch...it looked like a drunken monkey had done it. I wanted to smack him, it looked awfull!
My experience with air nibblers is that they slightly deformed the metal too...but maybe they weren't high enough quality or my technique sucked. Ah well, my sawzall works great.
Yea, I think Ho did a real good job. If Superbeast wasn't primarily a mud bogger/dragger I would have set it up more like his. I plan on making a trail rig though which will fit the bill...
yea, you shouldnt cut into a body if its all pristine and crap. trade sumone for a rust bcuket and some money
my experiance with using the sawzall is it deforms the fenders alot more, plus it leaves a really rough edge that will cut the crap outta you or your tires
I haven't had a problem with with the cuts deforming using a sawzall. 'Course, I use a "real" sawzall and a good blade too...other saws/blades I could see messing it up. They do leave the edge sharp as a razor though. My buddies that I did I finished it off with some vinyl edging along the sharp edges. Sounds ghetto-fab but it looked like trim and worked great.
i use the real sawzall too....the milwaulkee super orbital sawzall, and im partial to the milwaulkee torch blades. im really partial to milwaulkee electric tools anyway. dewalt sucks.....
bronco.......thats a chevy, thats why the pumpkin is on th passenger side.....i stole that off of shakerbuilt's site just for reference to what i was talking about

That's part of my hesitation. My truck is in great shape, new paint and all. I don't want to mess it up but if I could get it coming out professional looking it would be awesome. You guys think I could do it neatly with a plasma cutter?
NTW has the IROK radials for sale now but they're $100 more per tire than the bias so I'm thinking for the extra money I could just go ahead and buy 44's. You guys have tempted me and the longer I look at 40's the smaller they seem. Course I'll drive around with the 44's for a while and then be looking for a way to fit the 49's. Never satisfied.

I saw that today as well!
Just an update.....I have about 1000 miles on my IROK's and they have not even begun to look like they are wearing down! Yes they are the bias ply's too!
I was expecting the radials to be a little bit more, but not 50% higher in cost. I figured for the extra $400 I could afford to drive on bias and buy tires more often . . . OR spend the extra money and get some giant tires. Good to know about the IROK's Jason. Right now I'm kicking around what size wheels I want to go with. Ho and I talked a while ago about 16.5's having a not-so-great bead on them but it seems all the giant tires are available in 16.5 so I may go there afterall. I need something with less backspacing than I have now.
