I just got my finances in line so I can pay cash for a new F250 lariat 4x4 Diesel Supercab Auto w/8'bed. I'm going to have to order it to get just what I want. I'm not sure what there are for rebates in the New England area.
With the up coming 'sale weekend' is this a good time to buy? or doesn't it really mater.
I'm thinking of offering invoice. Is this realistic or should I offer less? I have the truck all 'built' online with the printout for reference. Is dealer prep the only standard over charge that I should try to refuse?
This is a huge investment for me so I'm a little nervous, but I don't want to be confused going in!
The "big sale" is kind of meaningless for your purposes since those are more oriented to moving cars/trucks that are in current inventory. If you happen to find a truck that meets your requirements you probably ought to try and deal on it because the dealer impetus is to move what they have and as such they may be willing to take say $500 under invoice but they may only accept net invoice on new orders. The only ups & extras you should pay on the deal should be delivery @ $795, fuel in tank, tax & license, Ford regional advertising (about $250) and maybe prep if its no more than $100 or so. Don't pay for warranty, undercoating, ID etching, dealer options & mark-ups or any of that other jibberish and make sure you get your rebates. If you are buying a PSD off a lot I'd recommend making sure it has the latest '04 engine config.
Are you talking about paying cash for the entire cost of the truck or just a down payment? With ineterest rates as low as they are, dumping a pile of cash on a vehicle isn't necessarily the best use of your money. You might want to consider financing the truck and then investing the cash you've saved.
If you make youself an educated buyer, a "sale weekend" is meaningless. I think invoice or even slightly below invoice is within reach, but you need to be willing to do your homework and visit several dealerships. The biggee is that you need to be willing to walk away!!! By the way, the rebates are on top of your negotiated price, don't let the dealer keep your incentives.
I would consider buying an extended warranty, although I would probably not buy it as the same time as I bought the truck. You have until the initial warranty expires.
All good advice, ESPECIALLY blackhat620s! just a couple things:
1)You shouldn't pay a penny for "prep." Ford pays the dealer for that, and they're not supposed to charge the customer.
2) Nearly every state has what's called a "holder in due course" clause (every lawyer's ear just perked up). If you arrange financing THROUGH THE DEALER, and you run into problems with that dealer down the road, this clause gives you the right to withold payments from the bank until the problem's resolved. You don't stop making payments, they go into an escrow account, bit it definitely gets the bank's attention. I think this is an important consumer safeguard to have, and you won't have it if you pay cash or finance on your own. Even if you borrow a small amount for a year or two, it's worth having.
I stopped at a Ford dealer on the way home from work to see some colors in person. I spoke to a salesman about the dealer installed remote starter.
He wasn't sure if it was available for the 6.0 psd??? I told him I was sure it was, and he went to check. When he came back he confirmed it was available, but it was a little more expensive because of the diesel.
I understood they were all the same unit, just set up diferently for the delay in starting a diesil.
1) I'll e-mail you the incentive info (see "IMPORTANT:..." thread above), but you have to get your e-mail set up. Either you don't have enough posts, or your e-mail ability is "turned off" in your profile. Either way, an administrator can help if you can't get it to work on your own.
2) I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a remote starter that works well with the diesel. At least that's been my experience; I won't even sell a remote (Ford's or anyone else's) because of the problems we've had with them. Perhaps someone here can make a positive recommendation.
I changed my settings to allow email contact.
I saw you "important" post.
I appreciate your efforts. Let me know If you can't get my email.
I'll find a way!
I'm thinking about an extended waranty.
Is there movement in the pricing for the Ford plans?
I don't know if there is a 'dealer cost' for these plans and
how much they mark them up. Is there a better time to buy
an extended waranty? When I buy the truck or later on?
I know there are diferent miles/years options, but I don't
know what I should be paying for them.
And that dealer sells the ESP at a discount. E-mail me and I can give you some numbers. Also do a search on this site- there have been some links to dealers that discount, maybe even more than that dealer in New York I'm referring to.
I don't know if there's an advantage to buying now or later. You can buy anytime during your initial 36/36 bumper-to-bumper, but there is a $100 surcharge if you buy after the first 12/12. Also, you don't get any more time or mileage by buying later, because the warranty will always start on your purchase date and with zero miles. A 7 year/ 100,00 mile ESP is actually an additional 4 years and 64,000 miles of coverage. So, I guess you're getting the 3 years to make up your mind if you want it or not. Also, there's no guarantee that there won't be a price increase during that 3 years. They can't lock in the price that's originally quoted 3 years ago.
Also, if you're considering a non-Ford extended warranty, forget it. These companies go in and out of business so fast it will make your head spin. Again, do a search on this site and read some of the horror stories. Yeah, they saved $300 by buying the aftermarket warranty, and now the company's out of business. That warranty is now not even worth the paper it's printed on. If it's not ESP, then save your money.
