Plows

Hope I'm in the right section, so dang many I get confused..

I'm loking at buying a new 250 or 350, I'm wondering what a 8ft plow SHOULD cost, the dealers have so many numbers on the stickers, I can't tell.

What should everything cost installed? New England area if you know!

Thanks,

BJ

Well if you could first tell us what kind of plow your looking for maybe we can help you better. I mean like what brand. I got the 8 ft part.

I know that a 8ft western installed goes for about $3100 if its a unimount and $3300 if its a ultramount.

I agree with Dave. I purchased my Western Plow last fall and paid $3,400.00 for the ultramount with the remote lift/angle. Do yourself a favor, If you going to purchase a plow, get a name brand, don't buy one of "no frills" cheap plows. You will not regret it... Good Luck..

Hi
Mine came with the truck new. A 71/2 foot meyers power angle. any bigger and it would not fit in my garage door. The dealer let me have it for $2,000 so they didn't have to remove it. I wasn't looking for a plow but am happy i got it now.

I just got last month a 2003 F250 with a western 7'6" ultra mount pro plow, it was $3400. I also got the 7.5 so it would fit in my garage. It works great and my 8 year old daughter could put it on or take it off the truck.

Sorry, I should have been more detailed. I was looking at a Fisher plow set up, 7.5 ft wide. I don't know the diffrence in the setup types that were mentioned above.

The other thing that I keep hearing is that a plow always messes up the front end on a truck. I don't plan on doing much with it, about 4 driveways for my family, does it really do allot of damage? Or is that an tale thats been around forever?

Hello,

I had the Fisher 8' Minute Mount 2 system installed with Fishstick control for 3800 and that was the going rate for November, Having made a couple of calls to local installers
I was disappointed that the plow did not come with a cutting edge on it, so you might want to check into that (To save your blade from damage)

If you are getting it from the dealer you will be all set as they have to warranty it if they are putting it on...

The wieght of the plow can weaken your springs and does put more wear on your spindles, hubs, etc, but these are heavy duty trucks and can take it.
If your truck was ordered with the plow package, your springs are made for the wieght of the plow.
Just use common sense when plowing and you should have no problems.
Also when parked, lower the plow to relieve the wieght up front.
I run a front and rear plow and my truck drives perfectly, hardly know there on there as compared to other trucks I have had in the past.

The dollars quoted by everyone else are dead-on, so you don't need any more help there. As far as quality goes, my customers are happiest with the Fisher, with the Western a close 2nd. I know of hardly anyone happy with a Meyer- they tend to be very troublesome. When it comes to plows, you get what you pay for. The Ford plow prep package is mandatory if you're plowing all the time. You MIGHT be able to get away without it if you only plow now and then. The package is so cheap that, if you're ordering a truck, just go ahead and get it. If you're buying from out of stock and the truck doesn't have it, don't let it be a deal-breaker if you only plow a couple of driveways. I do think all-terrain tires and limited-slip are a must, no matter what.

My dealer wanted close to 4 grand for the fisher 8ft minuet mount.I told them to keep it.I did however buy the same plow with the fishstick from the want ad that was used one season for 1900.00.I had to buy the push plates for the truck and they were 200.00.Big difference in price.I also live in New England. There are many used plows in the want ads.

I bought a 9' Fisher minute mouunt installed for around $3800.00, but that was in late 99',,they don't come with a cutting edge, you have to ( or should)wear down the trip edge like 1" before bolting on the cutting edge,, Fisher plows are good for pavement, but hard on driveways and the ocassional " opps " on a lawn, I think a western would be alittle easier on driveways,,wetern plows trip and and may not "excavate" as badly plus a bit lighter,,,Fisher has the trip-edge, and when it "Hogs_In" it does some "Excavating" I hate when that happens,,,I would'nt buy less then an 8' plow for a F-250 or 350,, my 9' Fisher only sags the front like 1/2 of an inch on my F-350, with a PSD,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Good luck,,,,,,,,,,,,,Later,,,,,,,,,,,Mark
