Angry Racing

I have a 98 ext cab f150 lariat 4x4 5.4L with flowmaster 40 series (DOR) with 120,000 miles , and all I wanted to do is beat my friend whose got a 98 single cab f150 xl 4.2L 5 speed. He burnt me 3 times pretty bad(I thought i would have burnt him, but I realized his truck is alot lighter and stick), and I was just seeing if there is anything i could do to beat him. I want revenge.

there must be something wrong, a 5.4 even in 98 should blow away a 4.2 liter. What type of rear gearing do you have?

OR maybe that 4.2 isnt completely stock, do you know if he has done any work to it.??

Buy a programmer from Diablo, I heard those things work pretty well in the performance category. I don't think any other aftermarket bolt-on under $500 will help that much unless you wanna throw in a Sneaky Pete. Heheh.

You dont need a chip to stomp him.

Did you spin out upon launch?

BTW, Welcome to FTE!

I don't know, those models are heavy. I got a 4.6L and they produce around the same power as the 4.2L, give or take ten horses, and I seriously know I can burn any extended cab F150. Heck, I whooped up on a Z71 Silverado Ext. Cab. So the mileage plus the extra body weight is probably why he lost.
Oh yeah not to mention he has a 4x4 model, more weight.
BPardon, do you know how many miles your buddy has on his truck?

i didnt spin out upon launch. I held the gears and he still took me, but about 5 days later i had 2 blown spark plugs, they havent been changed in awhile. That could be why but all I remember is is barely seeing his license plate number, thats how bad it was. Will a jet performance chip help or a hypertech programmer, how about a K&N intake??? I need to get braging rights.

maybe you need something simple as a tune-up...

I have a 2003 SuperCrew 5.4 FX4 and I can melt the tires.

The only modification that I have done (so far) is 3" pipe and a Magnaflow.. I have driven the 4.2 and those little things are peppy, but no way would it hang with my 5.4..

It will accellerate faster by leaving it in drive.
The 4x4 is alot heavier and has alot more reciprocating mass to move to the power to the wheels is greatly reduced.
If you race him for a very short distance, you could use 4x4 low. You will top out around 40mph though.
The extra cab and frame make it heavier too.
A good shot of nitrous oxide will work!!
Check out the Diablo chips/programmers at the online store. Ken has good technical support too.

If you have a 4x4 you first need to dump the mechanical fan....that's 15 - 17hp right there and buy a dual electric fan kit. A chip can help but usually the just fix a glitch that prevents the PCM from going open loop @ WOT. My truck had this problem...costs about 30hp in some cases depending on the delay. Find you PCM code on the passenger side inside the door frame....white label with a 3 Letter/1 Digit code and call Motorhaven. FactoryTech valvebody will help the transmission too. Other than complete exhaust system you aren't gonna find much more hp in bolt-ons.

True dat 2000, I bought the K&N Cold Air Kit and it was a waste. There is no real performace from it.
I'd change those plugs if I were you, new plugs make a pretty big difference in how the engine performs. Maybe after the plug change you can hold with him.

Chris
P.S. Don't buy Bosch Platinums. I have been told they are a waste and our motors eat them up quick. Stay with Motorcraft Platinums.
