Question Spring Isolators

my front suspension is makeing a nice creeking /squeeking sound when i hit a good dip or big bump in the road. it kinda comes and goes and doesnt do it when its raining. so i kinda figure its the spring isolators.

i was quoted 78 bucks for parts at the stealership, is this about right?

for those of ya'll who have replaced them yourself, how much did you pay for yours? are they any different than stock? did it fix your problem? how long did it take?

mine were done under warranty--so no help there
but after it was done the springs still squeeked -until I
hosed them down with lithium grease-no squeek for
2 months now

Lithium grease worked for 2+ years for me. I used almost a full 16oz. aerosal can of the stuff.

I've got the same ANNOYING squeak - but couldn't determine exacly where it was coming from. Where did you spray the stuff - actually on the bushings in the springs? Can you do it while they are on the truck? I tried spraying nearly every part of the suspension with wd-40 but no dice - maybe it's too thin an oil?

CAT_man_963,
I am not sure if your question is directed to me or not, but here is my response.
I sprayed the grease between each individual leaf, dousing genrously. I did not focus on the bushings @ the end of the leaf springs, although it would not hurt to apply to any moving part of the suspension.
I applied the grease to the leafs as the vehicle sat w/ 4 wheels on the ground. I think that is the best method; jacking the front end up will close the gap between the leafs.
I hope this helps.

Smokin_S -
thanks - I don't think I EVER would have thought to spray the leaves themselves - no wonder I couldn't find it with the wd_40! I thought that's what the black plastic parts between the leaves were supposed to do. Anyhow thanks alot.
I think I might put the truck on jacks - on the frame - to take the weight off the springs and let them sepparate a bit

CAT_man_963,
WD-40 is too thin, use a lithium based grease. It held up well for me.
You can do whatever you feel is nesscary; but jacking the front end up will probably (IMHO) minimize the gap between the leafs.
I could be wrong.

CAT_man_963,
WD-40 is too thin to last. I used a lithium based grease, developed from an aerosal can.
My thoughts are if you suspend the front end you will compress the leaf springs tighhter. Spray the grease with all four wheels on the ground. Either that or compress the front end with a static load.
