The heating oil (#1 or #2) here isn't dyed. No way to tell. Unless you get caught filling your rig from the "Heating Oil" pump your not going to get caught. Its about 40 cents cheaper though.
I live in northern CA., and I drive a "large car" for a living. I have seen, on more than one occaision, CHP pull pickups into the roadside inspections and dip their tanks. If you're red, you're dead. Heating oil, on the other hand, as pointed out above is the same fuel as diesel, but cheaper, go figure.
Blue fuel is aviation 100 octane leaded. Now blue diesel would be strange. Tell them your running a 50/50 mix of avgas and diesel. Then watch his head spin.
LOL..red diesel I have noticed a little more smoke than white fuel and for those of you who are going to use the white heating fuel for a alternitive.I do belive that is kerosene and I think that will fry your injectors for sure.Kerosene is what the add to diesel in small ratio amounts to winterize it when it gets cold to keep it from gelling.Thats my 2 cents

Their has been two times I know of that they have checked tanks of Diesels at horse shows in middle Ga. They came up empty handed tho. Not only does the red have no road tax imposed upon it, the red also has a higher sulfur content which will make it produce more black smoke out the tail pipe and isnt good for your cleaner burning computer controlled engine.
I wonder how they could make that stand up in court if you really wanted to fight it. I mean them dipping the tanks on a parked rig. It's not being driven on the road so what law is being broken?? I know they do it around here too at rodeos and livestock auctions.
I just think it would be funny to get a lawyer or even just go in yourself and fight it. You could say anything you wanted and they couldn't prove otherwise. Say your buddy was going to empty his aux tank and you didn't want the diesel to go to waste so you were storing it in your fuel tank and would of course drain it out before you left
Sure they would know you were lying but they couldn't prove it in a court of law.
