I have just replaced my 351W intake and carb for a Typhoon High Rise intake from Performance Products and replaced the 2bbl carb with a Holley 600cfm carb. Both new parts from the box. After installation I tried to start my truck.I can get the motor to turn but it will not start. The distributor was not taken out for the intake installation so it should not have been effected there(timing).I get short burst of ignition when I try to start the motor.I replaced the plugs for new plugs. The distributor is less than a month old.Next I checked the spark from each wire to see if the plugs were getting fire. Some of the plug wires were giving a good spark and some were very weak sparks. These were the same wires I was using before and it ran fine. The first time I tried to sart it up,it backfired.I have checked the firing order at least 10 times.I know it's probably going to be something simple. Can anyone tell me what to do or try next? How can I get it top dead center?Any reply will be greatly appreciated!!Please Help!
My first item on check list is to replace coil(pretty cheap) and see what happens. Then comes the more intricate stuff i.e. timing jump, ballist etc. As for tdc, youcan buy or make a piston stop, however, I like to pull valve cover and watch the no.1 valves. When both are closed and your turning crank on compression stroke you can use your finger to feel the pressure on the spark hole(oh yea, you'll need to pull no.1 spark plug also) once the air pressure stops youshould be there. Now you can check you'r bug and marks. I know this sounds alittle involved but I am a one for details. Hope this helps.
