I have just one code (33) on my 92 Ford. I have been trying to clear a code after a repair with no success. I try to clear it with engine off and procedure with my Actron $30 code reader. (Wait until code transmits and switch from test to hold)
I have also tried by taking battery power away for 15 min to clear continous codes. Any surefire way of clearing it other than 40-80 cycles?
I have also tried to cycle the key 80 + times after warmup but it still hangs on to the code
It sounds like the problem still exists. If you pull the codes with the so called "paper clip" method, pull the paperclip while the codes are being output. That is how to clear the codes. Disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes also clears the codes, but you lose all adaptive memory in the computer that way.
I believe the Actron 9015 code scanner method of switching from "test" to "hold" while code is transmitted does the same thing as the paper clip method. I should try the paper clip method anyway.
I would think that if I don't restart after clearing the codes that the code would not reappear until it starts again.
The pros clear the codes one of the two ways I posted earlier, or with a code scanner the way you have done. The computer adapts to how a signal reports over time and gets used to a sensor that might give a slightly different value than the computer expects. The idle speed is one thing that can be affected. It doesn't hurt anything to reset it, you just have to drive it for a few miles to let the computer relearn all the operating parameters of the sensors.
Q: I'm getting a code 33 on my Ford Code Reader that will not clear and my check engine light is off.
A: Most likely you are getting a code 111 twice. You can tell by running the test again and watching to see if you get code 33 twice BEFORE the single flash separator code. Since each code repeats twice, you must get code 33 twice to have a code 33 in the system. Below animations illustrate these codes. In both examples, you see a total of six flashes but the key is to notice where the pauses and long pauses are.
I was getting 3 flashes pause 3 flashes ....seperator code... 3 flashes pause 3 flashes
I though it was 33 twice. I guess it was 111 4 times.
Oops , I was getting all wound up for nothing. I still am concerned about fuel MPG. Is it worth it to just replace the OX sensor even though I don't have a code?
