Ratings???

Again you're correct( at least as far as the Super Duties are concerned, they all have a 20,000 CGVWR)
BUT, if you compare just the tow ratings, not the GCVWR, the rated TOWING weight will decrease with a lower numerical gearing. I believe the "tow packages" are standard now on Super Duties so the trucks will be identical save for the ratio.
As far as GCVWR, Ford is lagging behind GM by 2000 pounds now.
The bottom line IMHO is that the 4.30's will deliver more torque to the drive wheels which lessens the strain on clutch or convertor or other trans parts thereby adding a little to the towing capacity.

Actually, not quite right:
GCWR of 3.73 4.10/4.30
5.4L 13,500 15,000
6.8L 17,000 20,000
7.3L 20,000 20,000
Maximum trailer weights are determined by engine/gear ratio/body style
considerations. The heavier the truck, the less trailer you can tow.
Not counting the 5.4L (It's no contender!)
It's interesting to note that the V-10 and the PSD are rated equally with the 4.10/4.30 diffs. When you go taller (3.73's), the V-10 loses out. I imagine it is because of the strain on the trans trying to move that heavy a load at the RPM's the V-10 needs to produce max torque.

Right on!

As has been noted, GCWR is dependent upon the axle ratio. I should have been more clear that my first post was referencing vehicles with the same configuration- except gears.
Great info!!! I mistakingly thought all Super Duties were 20,000 CGVWR across the board. On this site it showed the MAX as being 20K and doesn't break down the ratio/motor combos. The Excursion info also proves the ratio alone affects tow ratings because obviously all else is equal.
I stand by my theory that the higher numerical gearing is easier on drive line components giving it a higher tow rating.
