Mini Spool Instructions?

Another thing you have to remember, when you pu the axles back in, the U joints MUST be in phase with each other, otherwise it will cause increased bind in the u joints, and make them easier to break.

*open cold beer. Drink. Feel cocky about the off-road smack downs you will be handing out left and right once your mini-spool is in. Emit "evil" laugh*
-Pull both axles (you have the cover off so i figure you've already done this)
*look in dismay at the size of your stock shafts and go price out some Superiors. Think about selling a kidney, then snap out of it*
-remove mainbearing caps (be sure to mark what side they came off and what direction they point)
*rather than marking them, set them to the left and right pointing in the correct direction. Later, trip over them kicking them halfway across the garage and hoplessly mixing them up*
-pull the carrier (might need a hefty prybar)
*smash thumb big time. Curse, kick the dog, drink another beer*
-be careful of the bearing cups, don't mess them up and note what side they came from
*do the same thing with them that you did with the main caps*
-take note of any shims that came out and what side they came from
*resign yourself to the fact that somehow, someway, at least one shim will be misplaced and you will waste three hours looking for it. Kick dog again for good measure*
-mount carrier in vice with the ring gear flange pointed "up"
-drive out the roll pin that holds the spider gear cross shaft in place
-drive out the cross shaft
-pull spider gears
*all of the above assumes that you have a vice. Try first by placing carrier in lap, holding it tight with your knees. That will work, right? Once you have crushed your genitals by trying to pound out the roll pin and cross shaft, curse wildly, throw tools at garage wall, kick dog, get bag of ice for smashed nether region, drink another beer, and buy a vice*
-install minispool
-drive cross shaft through hole (non-splined) in minispool, make sure the roll pin holes line up
*smash the same thumb again, drink another beer. The thumb isn't the only thing getting smashed at this point*
-reinstall roll pin
-place carrier in housing (rememeber the bearing cups)
*after dropping the carrier on your foot*
-reinstall shims
*since you never found that one, use a fender washer*
-reinstall main bearing caps
-tighten bolts to 80-90 lbs
*Thinking ahead, you got some shiney new bolts at the hardware store for this step when you bought the vice. After snapping them off at @ 30#s, you realize you should have bought grade 8, or better yet, reused the original bolts*
-recheck backlash (you shouldn't need to adjust it if you put all the shims back where they came from)
*Since you replaced the lost one with a fender washer, the lash will remain unchanged, right?*
-reinstall stub axle
* it should just slip in. If not, somethings wrong. Pound on the end of the stub with a 20# sledge untill it gives*
-reinstall centersection (30-40 lbs)
*snap more bolts, drink more beer, throw more tools, beat head against centersection since you've lost all feeling in your face by now anyways*
-keep going 'til you're done
*or the neighbors find you dead and/or the dog bites you*
Just trying to give an "accurate" description of the "proper" steps.

i had the 2wd moment, i was running out of time and almost just bolted the hubs back together and left the center section just sitting there till a later date haha. not to mention the gasket moving out of place every time you try to line everythin up....by yourself, with a floor jack supporting everything......almost died several times...
