83 F150 351W camper special
I have a 80 f-150 custom 4x4, 9" with a mini spool.
off road it works great and in a strait line,
in tight turns and parking lots it kinda sucks since there's no diff.
not to bad to install on this axel.
If you are hauling things and driving this truck in all types of weather you will regret installing a mini spool. If you load the bed down and take a sharp turn your axles will break. I run one but never haul anything and am very careful on the turns. Rain is out of the question. It just stays parked.
I've been running one for 3 years in my F-150. In the winter, I love it, when its raining, I love it, when its snowing, I love it. The only think I hate about it, is on dry pavement, the "chirp chirp chirp" going around every corner.
I also use the truck to pull my enduro car, I put about 1500lb's of tools and gear in the back, and a good 8,000lbs of railer hooked to it. I've never had a problem.
No breakage what so ever, with 35's and a stock 31 spline 9"
This truck is also a daily driver for the most part.
I have one as well in my 78 F150 460 4x4 w/35s and 31 spline axles. It's mainly an off-road truck, but I do drive it to work and back occasionaly.
I don't have problems in the rain at all, but turning tight corners in snow I do get some slippage. However, a track-lok dif will act exactly the same in snow. There's not enough traction on either wheel to make the track-lok slip. The up side to the mini-spool is that it's predictable. It will ALWAYS react the same way when cornering.
The biggest problem I have with my mini spool is backing up up hill, wheels turned all the way, in gravel. But I think it would do that regardless.
