'01 F-350 Superduty - 4-door - with all the doors shut, rechecked and slammed to make sure. The dummy light says a door is open, the dome light stays on and if it we are not driving and our parked it dings (if the key is in the ignition).
It seems as though a switch somewhere doesn't know when the driver's door is closed.
Where is this switch located? Is it ajustable?
Try spraying the door latch mechanism with a liberal amount of wd-40. Often times dirt or dust will get in the latch, and cause one of the sensors to act up
I tried that about a week ago and thought that fixed it.
But my wife siad it did it a couple more times and then last night it did to me again.
Is the sensor located inside the door on the black door mechanism?
The switch is located on the bottom of the door latch. Usually it is the drivers door since it is the one that gets the most use. Try spraying wd-40 down into the bottom of the latch and open/close several times. If that doesn't do it you'll have to take the door apart to replace the switch. Switches are about $10 each but are a real pain to get to.
Sounds like your switch for one of the doors. I actually haven't looked on the PSD but all the rest of our vehicles has a small switch against body of door frame. Usually middlish way, between the door hinges. In the past I have cut the wires and not bothered with it. You can test it pretty easy by several methods. Take out one of the switches and either leave wire circuit open or closed, can't remember which is which, you'll know when the dome light, idiot light, .. goes out. If it never acts up, you have the culprit switch. Go to a salvage yard or buy new one and replace. If it acts up again, another switch is the the bad one. Replace the one you took out, go the the next and repeat.
The wd-40 thing works. I had the same problem on my 99 250. After spraying the switch with large amounts of WD-40 I coated them with some dust repellant white grease. Have not had anymore problems with the light staying on.
