i have a 92 f150 supercab, and i've been trying to figure out this car audio stuff for some time now, but i'm pretty sure i want 6.5 components in the front, coaxials for rear fill, and i'm prolly gonna get infinity reference subs but not sure where i'm gonna put them. i was wondering what kind of components everyone thinks are best? i listen mostly to rock and country but a little of everything. suggestions for the other stuff is always welcome too. thanks
By the looks of your sig, you've already got your mind made up....
But since you're asking; I'd recommend the Kicker Resolution components. I dunno what you're looking to spend, but all around they're probably the best bang for the buck. Folloed closely by Alpine Type R.
As for the subs, spend the little (maybe $50 each) extra and step up to the Infinity Perfect subs. 10X better than the resolutions. If you're not too picky about subs and don't wanna spend too much, the Kicker Comp VR's are excellent for the money.
(BTW; Although it sounds like it, I don't run any Kicker stuff right now. On a budget they are excellent performers, though.)
I agree with GEEZER, I've ran Kicker Resolutions
6.5's in a few different vehicles and they can handle the power and dont distort. I've yet to blow out any of them either. I've ran two sets of 6.5 Resolutions in a Dakota with two Kicker SoloBaric 8" subs that sounded unbeliveable.
I have a 10" Infinity sub and Focal 6.5 components in Q form kick panels in the front of my 2003 xtCab. They handle power nicely and the kicks image nicely. Can find the mid level Focals on Ebay for 160-200 bucks.
cdt's from theZEB are the best deal running on comps, period.
For the $$, true. I did'nt know they were still running that $150 deal. I'm currently using the CL-61's in the Bronco (until I get bored.....) and am very impressed thus far.
GEEZER, about the sig, thats what some1 recommended and i was thinking about getting it but then some1 said that i would regret it so i decided to do some more research. about the kickers, what amps would you recommend? and should i get comps for the rear too, or just coaxials? thanx
CDTs would blow those kickers away and for the price u wont be sorry. rainbow, diamond, focal...all good companies even thier low-mid end products...heck even the boston acoustics, infinity, some MQ quart and JLs are good. personally id stay away from mainstream stuff like kicker, fosgate, etc...
skip the rear speakers and get urself a nice amp for the front comps. also the infinity referneces are nice but u can do better...check out elemental design audio, adire or resonant enginering...
I have heard the Kicker resolutions separates....goodsetup in my opinion...
you can push these hard and they won't crackle like others I have heard...
Alpines are also nice....as are MBQuart units....all worth the money.
As far as amps go....it is hard to beat the MTX thunder amlifiers....these
are the best priced quality amplifiers I have seen in the market.....
If you can go with a set of coaxials for rear fill......use a 4 channel amp for the 4 corners and a bridgable amp with built in low pass x-over for the sub...
You might take a look at EBay for used Precision Power PC series amplifiers, I'm not sure how inexpensive MTX amps are, but it would be hard to beat one of the PPI PC series amps.
Like Capone said, look for a 4 channel and some rear speakers for fill. A PC2150 (or2600) for your bridgable sub amp would be great. The PPI's also have the built in high/low pass crossovers.
Optikal,
Plenty here have used and do use Kicker (for years I might add) with no problems at all, not to say that the other speakers mentioned arent good also, but there is nothing at all wrong with Kickers my friend!
Every set of highs will sound different in every application. If you factor in the fact that no two ppl thinks the same 2 things sound well, it makes the "what highs" question almost possible to answer.
Personally? Id go buy a set of used MB Quarts if budget is an issue. The CDT's if not. (Although i wouldnt buy them, the Cerwin Vegas and Infinity reference sound better to many than the Kickers.....i have met a few on car audio forums that were not pleased with the Kickers compared to almost any other brand they replaced them with)
High end used is better than mainstream new.

I'd grab the CDT CL-61a component set ($150 at thezeb.com), an Adire Audio Shiva for $125 here (Click Me! ) and a PG Tantrum 600.4 ($280 at Sounddomain.com) to power them.
