I need a new computer
I went into Office Depot today. In their ad this week, they listed an Emachines outfit which after $ 350.00 worth of rebates, your final cost was only $346.00. Early in the week I called and they were soldout. I know, I know, I have heard mostly negative comments about Emachines.
Anyway, I dropped in today to look around and found out they were substituting a Compaq Presario S6010V. It has a 2.5GHz
Intel celeron processor. I know, I know, a Celeron is not as good as a P4, but all I do is surf the net and write e-mails. I will most likely get another computer in a couple years anyway.
The shipping is free also.
So I broke down and ordered one. It is supposed to be delivered in 10 days. I post again when I get it.
Thanks a bunch for the comments.

Built FORD tough!!
Do not discount the Celeron. The only difference between the P4 and the Celeron is the on board cache. Only on line gamers and Computer Aided Designers need the P4 cache.
The Gigahertz processors are really a waste. They build in wait cycles as motherboards are still the 1982 IBM design.
Yes, motherboards now have DMA slots for direct memory access and they have ATA 133 for hard drive access but these slots are still in the Megahertz speed. The Gigahertz processors are only faster in the one cycle when they load your software request.
A multi-threading processor is only relevant with an operating system which can multi-thread, Windows does a poor job.
