Secondly, I get a kick out of reading post of people telling others how the run a certain size tire, and it fits.
There is a difference between fitting and fitting properly.
There is a right way and a wrong way, does the wrong way work?? sometimes, but at some point it won't.
Will a 35" tire fit on a stock SD? sure I had them on just so I could take pics of how close they were to the fenders. But to tell some one YES THEY FIT, is kind of leading them down the wrong trail.
Then to say , but I have minor rubbing, here's a fact rubbing at all is BAD. If it rubs now , imagine what it would do if your suspension was bottomed out.
i agree! i would rather have pleanty of room in my wheel wells than a huge tire stuffed in there just to fill up space. my rule of thumb is one size bigger without a lift is ok. after that lift it!!!
I do see a good amount of posts stating that a larger than recommended tire will fit under a certain size lift or stock truck.
I can get my 35s to rub bad off road under a 4" lift........I've had them so close to the body that all I would've had to do was turn the wheel and I would have hit sheetmetal.
I love the look of big tires just stuffed all up in the well.... to lift it higher than what other people say you should to fit a certain size tire.. will just look gay As long as we all just keep our trucks on the pavement well fine...so there!...... Yeti...
How about the chevy on the cover of Off-Road with a 19" lift and 40"s? Haha!He should have 46"s or so under there. I see on the cover they are "off-roading" it and they are in no danger of rubbing!
Hey Peterson's has 46"s on a 6 inch lift with enought cutting to keep a steel worker happy. It looks so dang killer. I ran onto the guy that gets to drive it home at the mall and he was showing me the various trail rash. That truck is cool.
Sorry to hear you were in a bad mood YETI, hope you've settled down by now. On to your post I have 1 question for you....Why would you put 35's on your truck just for a picture?? Sounds kind of silly to me!!!! I have got 315/70's on my truck with out any contact...With that said I dont have a plow or do I do any heavy of roading IE: front tires stay on the ground. I have been to Silver Lake in the sand with no contact. My GoodYears are 33.5 tall, I have the plow package springs up front. Maybe what works on my 5.4 with out contact might not work on yours but any time you want to come over for a test ride feel free. And as far as bottoming out my suspension I got that out of my system a long time ago wih my 76 F-250, everytime the front tires left the ground I had to replace the ring and pinion or an axle shaft. So I learned my limits...and my trucks.
Let's face it, with a mexican speed wrench, I can make anything fit, but do we consider chiseling off 4 inches of wheel well sheet metal a simple mod?
I knock enough sheet metal off my truck without purposely hacking into it.
I guess if it was just a off road pig, it wouldn't matter, but Im partial when it comes to my fenders.
For the typical guy, who wants bigger tires, I just don't think that is some thing they are willing to do.
Let's look at it another way, lets say I put a nice big sharp knife under your couch, and tell you , if you sit down softly you'll be allright.....
Not that any of this matters, because I know everybody is an expert, I just would hate to have some guy go out and buy tires and not be happy when turns into his drive way and wonders what that ripping noise is.
