I have a problem which seems to come up on here often. ABS light on CEL on and no speedo or odo.
From reading previous posts I have located the speed sensor on the top of the rear diff. Before a I rip this apart I have also heard that a wiring harness connector in the area of the drivers seat can be to blame. Is this connector on the underside of the truck or inside under carpeting or whatever. Having kids in the truck the carpeting has been regularly wet with water coffee juice etc etc
Many Thanks for any advice
Welcome to FTE momo.
Sounds like you are going to have to trace the full length of the harness. A buddy of mine found his wiring fault at the diff. It wasn't until he actually opened up the harness that he spotted the wear point. He had already spent the time to do continuity tests, which the wiring passed! Go figure!
Can't say for sure, but I don't think there is anything under the driver's seat of your 2000 Ranger that would affect the ABS, speedo, tach, etc. in the manner that you describe. At least nothing like a connector or a module that you could readily test or replace.
i had the same problem with my truck not too long ago. all i did was replace the speed senseor on the rear diff. and it fixed the problem. that sounds like the case here. as far as a possible wiring problem under the driver's side...i agree with rockledge, there is nothing down there that i am aware of that would affect it in that way. your best bet would be to just change the sensor.
I did not do the work, but as I understand the drivers seat was removed and the floor pulled up to the bare metal. I would think the connection would be apparent once the floor was up.
Do try the speed sensor first. It is MUCH more commonly the problem and if it doesn't work you can probably even return it. I just wanted to let you know that it wasn't the only possiblilty.
Many Thanks Hammy
My first thought was that if the connector was accesible from inside it might be easier to try that first. However if the seat has to come out I will probably go for the sensor first
