I have a 94 2.3L Ranger that is acting up and I want to read the codes. I saw a previous post about using a wire to jump the EEC connectors under the hood to see the codes on the dash. Would the 94 be able to use this method or would I need to buy one of the expensive units I have been reading about? Thanks for any help you can give me.
Code scanners are so cheap, why not just buy one. I have an Actron CP-9015 for my Fords & it was only 30 bucks at Pep Boys. It comes with an XLNT instruction manual also.

I also have the same scanner, I use it on my '94 SHO. I like it because it flashes AND beeps, and like you said, it plugs right in and is simple to use. But I've also manually pulled the codes with a jumper and it works fine too, just not as convenient.
Rockledge, I just took a look at that BEAUTIFUL 94 SHO of yours. I understand that the Yamaha engine is a real screamer, must be a kick to drive with that 5 speed manual. If you ever decide to sell it hopefully you will let us know.

Hey thanks a lot XLT!
The SHO is indeed a lot of fun, especially with the 5 Speed tranny and the DOHC Yamaha (redlines @ 7300 RPM ). In fact, I had no intention of buying another car when it just happened that I ran into an opportunity to take the SHO for a test drive. I was hooked about 5 minutes into the ride... So I lowballed the used car dealer and he was hungry, and I ended up grabbing it for a song.
I recently dropped the pan and replaced the rod bearings, and also replaced the cam seals, timing belt, crank position sensor and crank seal. That motor right now is TIGHT!

Very nice. Have you ever thought about "upgrading" to a 95 mint condition GL with 3.0 liters of screaming Vulcan fury & a slugomatic? My dear "I just want to put it D & go" wife refuses to drive a clutch. I'd gladly trade you straight across Heh Heh
