I think what they mean by solid core is realy copper core wires. Solid core wires have a very low resistance. Good plug wires should have around 300-600 ohms per foot. If you have solid core wires you might hear ticking noise in a radio or tv.

so do you think the reproduction stock wires are copper?i understood it to mean using solid core wires would damage the pertronix unit.i am trying to see if pertronix' performance wires will work on my 292.concourse parts, for some reason, only shows them working for1958,which i can't understand.thanks for the help.

I don't think your reproduction wires are solid core but I could be wrong. My original wires were and my guess is yours may have been as well. Simple way to tell is to pull a plug wire off and look at down at the center if you see copper wire that is wrapped and crimped under medel contact that attches to your spark plug. If it is a black wire than it is not solid core. The rite way to test this is to check the resistance with a ohm meter if it has resistance than you don't have solid core wires. If you can get peformance wires to fit you may be better off any way. I use a hp unversal plug wires that can be cut to lenth and I crimp my own end on, That way it fits the way I want it to. Hope this helps
