I'm told that I should be running solid core spark plug wires on my 49 8BA.
My truck is as stock as I can keep it. Still 6V Positive Ground w/stock coil.
The guy at the auto parts store is trying to sell me multi strand steel wires. He said thats what they mean my solid core and thats what would have been used in 49.
I have no idea...... Is he right?
Thanks

Yes. "Solid Core" means its core is wire, not some kind of glass or graphite composite. The multi strand steel wires are what it would have had back in the day. A true solid steel single strand would be prone to breaking.
The only problem I've ever had with the solid core wires is radio noise. If you're going to have a stereo you will hear the "buzz" of the ignition firing. Since you are running the 6V positive ground, I'm guessing radio noise won't be a problem. Just an assumption on my part.
You shouldn't need solid cored wires unless you are running a magneto.I have copper cores on my welder. Also RFI is not good for pace makers either.Just a thought.
There is a lengthy article on real wire plug wires vs composition in this month's Vintage Truck Magazine. I'm running napa blue generic graphite or whatever on my 8ba, and it starts and runs beautifully, but it's 12 volt and apparently that helps the situation. They are horrible with magnetos.....
