Adding Cruise?

Does anyone know if it is possible to add cruise control to a 77 F150 Ranger XLT 4x2 with a 460 and C6? If so where do I get parts and how do I do the conversion?

Thanx, JJ

78-79 trucks and broncos had that option.
get everything the that touches the cruise control.
steering wheel cover, turn signal switch, speedo cable, amp (metalbox under the dash), wiring, everything under the hood.
it would be easyer to go aftermarket.

77 uses a different steering column that a 78-79.
There are aftermarket kits out there that will be easier to install.

Ok where can I get these kits? And will a 78-79 steering wheel blot on in place of the stock one. Money is tight and I am willing to do alot of junkyard combing befor I am willing to shell out alot of cash.

Thanx, JJ

The OEM stuff takes a little while to find all the parts but the quality is well worth the effort. Every aftermarket cruise unit I have tried have been complete junk and look like a kluge at best.

Check with Dennis, aka Mil1ion, for a parts list.

For the OEM conversion:

The steering columns are different but the wiring to the signal switch should be the same.

Wiring the cruise is just a simple wiring harness change.

Ford made this option to install quite easy.

The biggest, tedious, and most expensive part of the swap is the Brake Booster & pedal assembly.

Here is what is needed for changing a 78-79 NON-cruise truck to
a 78-79 With Cruise truck using OEM parts.

Cruise Control wiring (Underdash)
Cruise Contol actuating device on Intake

Brake Booster FT-38 ,or FT-43

That sounds like alot of work. Are there anyaftermarket kits that are worth consideration? Or any other options? If not I think that I will just learn to keep a steady foot on those long trips.

Thanx, JJ

I've done the swap and it's really not that bad. Gathering the parts was the worst part, and after a while it became a challenge that wasn't going to get the better of me. If you can find a donor truck that's complete you can scavange the parts in less than an hour and you'll be better equipped for the install.

Add the steering wheel and turn signal switch to the list of items needed.

Does someone have a list of the required parts, and possible alternatives (if any) from other vehicles (cars)?

Thanx, JJ
