We just purchased a 1997 Ford F 150 4x4 extended cab. It has a factory 6 disk cd changer behind the drivers seat. My problem is I put some cd's in it and now it won't play or eject the box that holds the cds. Can anybody help me as to how to eject it?????
The unit I am familiar with has a head unit that can be mounted anywhere (under seat, in trunk, or wherever.) It has a hand-held wired remote and turns the CD output into an FM radio signal which comes through the radio. The 6-disc magazine went into the head unit instead of the radio. That's the only model I know anything about. Sorry.
If you have the same changer I have, the issue is that it gets road dust in it and one of the sensors goes blind. This keeps it from fully inserting the playing CD back in to the magazine, which must be done for the magazine to come out. If you disconnedt the cabling and remove the cover, a few minutes with a compressed air line will probably solve the problem. You can reconnect the cabling and see if you can get the errant disc to jump back where it needs to be to eject the magazine.
Not a serious job. You can use the canned air if you don't have a compressor, but I don't recommend blowing into the unit.
Thanks to all that took your time out to reply. We took two butter knives and got the cartridge out. I was so stupid to put two cd's in the same hole and that's why it didn't work.
Ive got the same problem with a 10 disc player. When you open the sliding door, open it with some force b/c mine wont come out unless the door is as open and it can get. good luck
If it used the install kit that came with it, there is a little piece of wiring harness that plugs in between the factory radio and the plug on the harness. This has taps on 3 wires (red, yellow, and black) that provide the player with power (+12 V), ground, and something else---I forget exactly what, maybe constant power to keep the player's memory up. These three wires go directly to the RF modulator unit. If they have a connector (to allow removal of the CD without pulling the radio out or disconnecting the harness, one of these has probably either rattled loose or maybe has a bad crimp.
