6 volt horns

Sure is cold in the garage today. May be a good day to fix my horns.

I looked for cheap replacements. All I could find in 6 volt are for volkswagons or motorcycles. Not the sound I want. I went through a bone yard years ago. Lots of old trucks but none with horns. Did find a nice 6 volt unit from a delivery truck. Works good but its a beep-beep thing too. Just doesn't sound like a dump truck.

Seems odd to me what with all the repro parts you can buy, 6 volt horns aren't in any of my catalogs and I have a lot of catalogs. I would think I would find used ones for sale from all the 12 volt conversions I read about. I sure would pay big $ for a pair of those trumpets they show in the shop manual under the hood of a Deluxe Cab.

Maybe I can fix my origonals. Problem is the contacts are stuck together. Kind of like fused or welded or something. Almost look like breaker points. Tempting to go at them with the Dremel disk thing. Might be better off starting with a less agressive aproach. I think I'll find something else to do and think about this for a while.

I'm using a matched set of big & little trumpet horns from a late 30's Mopar.
They are fine on 6V but they are even better on 12V
