clunking sound

Unhappy clunking sound
I have a 1988 bronco 302 AT, When putting in reverse i hear and feel a clunking while moving and then it stops also does this when going into forward from reverse. any ideas

Ujoints, especially in the double cardon joint on the rear driveshaft. Loose pinion bolts. Transfer case, tranny.....But check your ujoints first..cheapest and easiest fix.

it keeps clunking for about 3 seconds when in reverse, it almost sounds like a grinding
