Clunk when releasing brake in reverse?
When I back up in my 77 F-250 it makes a loud clunk every time I release the brake. I think it's the front right brake catching but why would it only do it in reverse? Any suggestions?

Clunk when releasing brake in reverse?
Sorry, guess I was brain-dead
It is 2 wheel drive with front disc brakes. The brake in question was rebuilt a few months ago due to 3/8+ inch grooves in the rotor.
(oops) The brake pads had worn through. I hope the clunk doesn't have anything to do with the steering.

Here I thought it was a Drum brake truck.
Did you replace the caliper at the time?

I determined that the calipers were good so they were not replaced. The noise comes from the front.

I took the wheel of today and discovered that a rubber bushing has rotted off causing that disturbing noise. Thanks for the help.

Yep, just what I thought it sounded like! -hehe
Been there done that...
It should steer a lot better now and wander less.
A good repair manual would help. Best money you can spend on your truck.

Hi Ho - thanks for the update - that looks much better!! Did you have to get the front end re-aligned? Did that take care of all the wheel slop?...
