Run Them Hard

I seem to believe that there are to many posts on here about letting a truck idle too long or not putting your foot down on the fuel peddle.

THESE ARE FULL SIZE TRUCKS!!!

They are meant to be worked and worked hard.

Its one thing if you like to keep a truck nice and clean, but come on... its a MOTOR under the hood not a human

RUN THE SUCKA

only venting!!!

work a truck like a work truck should work but if you beat the p out of it, it will die just like anything else that gets abused.

When I took my truck in for service I was talking to the diesel tech and he said that unloaded the 6.0 is only using about 30% of its power so if i wanted it to last to keep up on the matinence and to put the peddle to the floor.

I,m not saying you have to baby it just so when you trade it in the new owner gets a good truck but, if you abuse it would you let him know if he asked you?

Lets be serious here. I am not talking about taking the truck to the sand dunes every day and totally beating the crap out of it for 8 hours a day and running it thru the swamp. I am just saying it is pethetic to worry about how long a truck is at idle or how to save on fuel mileage.

For one thing trucks are not made for fuel mileage. They are meant to haul stuff and make a person money. Granted a vehicle that has good fuel miliage is a plus, but to worry about it you should not have a truck.

You should by a gas/hybrid compact car.

Don't you think the body would rust out before a diesel motor wears out because it was running in park for ten minutes

To me it is simple, for one just look at all the businesses that have these trucks on the jobs. They run day in and day out and that is why you see so many Fords on the road.

Thats what they are built for....

I really don't want to sound like a jerk..This sight is excellent if there is a problem with your truck and you want to see if others have the same, to find a solution or a great idea to pass it on.

Kids with Tonka trucks are harder on them than some adults on here when it comes to a real truck.

Truck on.......................

My F-150 300-6 was purchased new by my grandpa in 1984. I got it in 1991 with 75,000 miles on the clock. Now its 2004 and the odometer says 210,000 miles. Never been in the shop once for anything. It quit one time when a Thick Film Ignition module blew. But $40 at Autozone and 15 minutes of wrenching took care of that in my driveway.

Its been a great truck and has never been babied. It gets ran hard especially when going to volunteer fire department calls. Waiting around for the oil pressure to show up is a waste of time. This morning it was -5 degrees. Jumped in, fired it off and took off. 3 speed column shift tranny is a little stiff at -5 but thats just its nature. When I got to where I was going I let it idle for 2 hours to keep the cab warm. I didn't even think about it. I always figured I would baby it as it got older. But the opposite is true. I know its not a one ton truck but it often does more work than it was designed to do. And I have replaced tires and brakes etc but nothing major besides maintenance items. And I change the oil when I get the chance...not every 3000 miles on the dot. It might have to wait till 6000 miles. Hasn't seemed to matter since I got 200,000 miles out of it anyway!

I'm proud of this particular Ford Truck. I sure hope 04 F-150's are half as good as this one has been.

And the heavy duty diesels should be able to take anything that is thrown at them. Seems like the expense and extra maintenance on a diesel is alot of hassle considering all the things you "dont" want them to do.

Life is too short to protect depreciating assets that are financed. Run it like you want or find something else that'll do the job is my motto. When this one dies (and it will) I dont plan on buying something that wont take what this old F-150 6cyl could.

How long will a Powerstroke diesel last if your maintenance schedule is less than perfect, you idle all the time, you dont really care about EGT's, turbo cool down, and easy driving when its cold? Just curious.

Here's what everything else I've had/will have gets compared to:
