T/H Changes in new flash. Why?
If it will still do the braking when you hit the brake pedal why not let it do it automatically when you let of the accelerator?
Just trying to understand the why on this one. I like the way my truck automatically begins to brake as I let off the go pedal at the crest of a hill and start the descent. It's a minor issue but I do not want to have to hit the brake to engage the transmission braking. This is a step backward as I see it.
The torque converter doesn't stay locked with your foot off the go pedal any longer, but it does not freewheel. The engine braking feels about the same to me. I can still go down the west side of the Eisenhower tunnel with my F550 and a 21K fifth wheel and it will stay at about 35 MPH. I only have to use the brakes about once per mile, the same as before the reflash.
It will automatically start to brake at the crest of the hill just like it did before.
My friend has an F350 and tows an 11K fiver. He had a terrible bucking at about 45 MPH when towing. The new flash eliminated this problem. I think that is why they changed how tow/haul works.
this thing ran like a raped ape before the flash.... i do love this truck hopfully they get thing working right on it....
O'well
Try to keep them diesel's rolln,

There is no January flash for the 6.0L PSD motor. The last published was the 12/12 release. The "flashes" put out by Ford do not cover the 6.0L motor.
What flash did you think you got and what was the number. No one else on three different sights has or knows of a January flash.
The 12/12 flash cured cold waether and high altitude idle issues as well as adjustments to tow/haul mode.
Thanks,
I will up date u guys when i find something out tuesday.
Thanks,

I agree with you about the Tow/Haul operation.
Here is what I have and have noticed:
1) I have the 12/12 flash.
2) 1-2 shifts at 2,400 RPM
3) 2-3 shifts at 2,400 RPM
4) 3-4 shifts at 2,500 RPM
5) 4-5 is about 2,600 - 2,800 RPM
6) Missed the 5-6 shift, but my truck runs right at 2,000 RPM's at 70 MPH (constant)

In Tow/Haul, the downshifts do not ocurr unless the brake is "tapped". I like the feature so "I" tell the truck when to brake, not the truck telling me.
If people really want braking power get an exhaust brake. I do not believe that the new tranny was a cure all or ever "billed" as that, but a nice new feature to have and to aid the "average" trailer tower/hauler. With electric brakes and/or an exhaust brake, I think the heavy users will LOVE their trucks.
Yes, your observations are correct (for the Dec flash).
Look at the link to see what the Dec flash modified.

There was no January '04 flash for the 6.0L PSD. You may have recieved or done it in January, but the emissions issue and code you refer to were the October '03 flash. The December flash wasthe same modifications plus a few extras for cold weather operation, cold idle and Tow/Haul adjustments.
Look at the link in the post prior to your and it describes each flash, version number and what it is to correct or modify.
Yes, for those of us that had the October and/or December flashes, pilot injection was truned off and mileage has gone done some.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck,
What exactly is this pilot injection? I have recieved the latest flash, which ever motn it may be from. I notice that my truck is a lil louder and havent had it back long enough to check the mileage.
Could some1 please advise.
Thanks,
