expensive stupidity

Any one know what 351 5.8L engine (short or long block) was put in the '89 F-250 4X4 trucks?
Also what are some good web sites for fairly inexpensive rebuilt engines?

The other day my clutch shaft broke sending the fan through the radiator. Like an idiot I thought I could bypass the radiator by joining the upper and lower hoses and refilling the engine with water and using the heater to control the temperature a little bit to drive the truck 30 miles to home.
I had to stop about every 3 miles and put more water in. After maybe 20 miles the engine started knocking then it finaly gave up. I had to call my dad to tow me the rest of the way home.
We thought the engine was seized at first but we finaly got it started, It runs rough and has several water leaks now.
Rather than trying to fix this engine I want to throw in a new one I'll be able to trust.
This is the price I am paying for doing something dumb.

A short block is everything but the heads, sometimes you get a cam/ timing chain/oil pump, sometimes you don't.

A longblock is the shortblock plus the heads and cam/timing chain/oil pump, if not optional on the shortblock.

You reuse your fuel supply, intake(s), oil pan (if not supplied with the short or long block), and everything else.

YOu might consider finding a (known reliable) local machine shop, pulling your engine and spending a few dollars to see if it can be reused. Thats if you want some options during the rebuild, like higher compression, different cam, head work, etc.. It is also a little easier to deal with someone local, one on one, when something goes wrong.

Otherwise, your local autoparts store will have the cheapest reman motor, not necessarily the best. Otherwise do a search for remanufactured engines, check with the better business bureau and if at all possible get feedback on those who have purchased from the company. Good luck

Ok, thank you. I thought it was a difference in the length of the engine.
