I try to use proper grammar, i make it clear and easy to read but i miss some of the little things. I have a habit of not capitalizing I's but small things like that i don't worry about. Its more like computer slang than anything. We get it from talking on the computer to people in instant messages, and hardly ever do you use proper grammar in typing while talking live. I'm from Boston, we like to take the easy route and cut off some letters in words .

Grammar is a reflection of not only one's education but also the level of one's attitude toward their self respect. I can see a writer's occasional mis-spelling while hastily composing thoughts upon the keyboard, or paper. This is human nature. However, any composition that is rife with grammatical errors is really just a reflection upon the writer. I make no judgements because everyone has their own way of participating in the forums. Yet I do think that everyone who reads the presentations in any forum does form an opinion about the author when they read the text. It is just a matter of how one wishes to be perceived among the public at large. They may not even care about that perception. When you can not communicate with someone face to face, and you only have their written thoughts and the way they are expressed to form your opinion, one cannot help but take these visual clues and substitute them for what is missing, ie the face to face contact and the concepts we form in that venue of dialogue. Reading and examining the text actually takes the place of the concepts we form through visual face to face perceptions.
I will leave the psychology to the psychologists, but I think it is a good idea to construct your forum presentations with the best possible grammar & syntax so as to engender the most respect you can receive in this particular forum of communication. F-3 Brien
Dennis - Thanks for pointing out my missing hyphen.
I deliberately tried to NOT direct my comments at any individual. I know we all have flaws and different responses to what we see in others. I guess I was "between-the-lines" trying to impress what Brien said - in print.
Whether reading or watching TV or listening to others, I tend to put a lot of emphasis on what is NOT being said. Sometimes people tell you more between the lines than what is in print (or words if it's vocal). I have on numerous occasions heard conversations or discussions where the speaker is misunderstood by the listener (I understood) and the listener disagrees with what he THOUGHT the speaker said. This confuses the speaker who doesn't grasp the fact that he is being refuted for something he didn't say. Sometimes I speak up and explain to both parties what the other said. Sometimes I just make a mental note in my VIRTUAL diary.
I can't believe how well written that reply from Brienobrien is.
I feel that he reached inside my brain, and took my thoughts and placed them on paper.
To me,this best exemplifies exactly how I feel about this subject
Great job !
Entiende espanol? Si no, entonces, escribe in espanol pero quidado, este es solamente eqaules a gramatica malo si tu no entiende! No? Sorry I could not resist, even if I only "hablo en poquito" F-3 Brien
The Winford reply reminds me of the game we played as a child where one person would say someting to another, and that person would say "what they think they heard" to the next person, and so it went down the line. We all know the outcome 99.9% of the time. So I think Winford grasps the concepts of these written forums very well. This is the essence of the application in being well grounded in grammer & syntax. Thanks to Dennis for the compliment on my efforts in self expression. And to those who may wonder, may poke fun at, or generally mock, why I don't know, yes I am a somewhat educated person and proud of it. I am pleased that it shows and make no apologies for it because I am having a great time here in the forums. F-3 Brien
