Grammar - as if anyone cared.

My apologies for those who do not understand Spanish but it made my point very succinctly. As I said. I could not resist because "the rain in Spain, falls mainly on the plain".! However, I will restrict my replies to English, unless a well suited foreign language phase may apply. Just think of what the Quebecois could do here! Many of us would be . It is best we keep this on an appropriate level of mutual understanding. F-3 Brien

Grammar - as if anyone cared.

The "rainy plain" comment was only a general observation...not pointed at anyone. Just a joke. :-)

Education to me is like cash..not to be flashed and should be used wisely..

and more is usually better...

I did not realize we were here to "flash". I consider these forums an educational experience for everyone involved. When I learn technical information on other forums and folks present concepts that befuddle my somewhat non-mechanical head, I did not realize they were flashing. I would consider this a projection upon which I would disagree to the fullest extent. I consider these forums a "vehicle" (pun intnded) for the learning experience rather decension into the realm of a soap box for catchy phrases or snide personal remarks. I understood the joke which is precisely why I responded in Spanish.
Had we required a German venue, I could have dug up the appropriate reply in that language as well. The point here is that none of this matters, except that the forum remains an educational "vehicle" (pun intended again" by which all that participate gain knowledge and come away with a better understanding of the everyday dicussions placed upon this website. I do not speak for anyone but myself so correct me if there is a wider scope to these forums. I very much enjoy the learning experience which is why I am here. F-3 Brien

Grammar - as if anyone cared.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Jun-02 AT 05:38 PM (EST)]Brien,
This subject has been addressed in the not-too-distant past. I have given thought to comments made during the recent discussion, your posts, and those which have come in response to it. I am left with the fairly simplistic conclusion that grammar, spelling, punctuation, and so forth simply matter more to some than it does to others. But, I guess this is really no different than most other subjective areas of life. It could argued that proper use of one's language is, in fact, an area of objective observation rather than subjective opinion. But, that would probably prove to be a frustrating issue to wrestle with.
I do "appreciate" a well written body of text, whether it be in one of these forums or a letter to the editor in Sunday's paper. I do not generally allow grammar, etc. to be an indication of the writer's intelligence. Rather, a reflection of his concern for proper grammar. There are many very smart folks who do not take the time or expend the effort to put it in writing (so to speak) in a manner that conveys their intelligence in the best possible light. Maybe that's not all that bad - everybody needs a time and place to not have to worry about what their High School teachers gave them grief over !!
Lest we forget: this is a forum about FORD TRUCKS and those of us who like 'em and drive 'em.
So, I'm with you - Just happy to be here!!!

WRITE ON !! (pun intended )

Brian A: You are "write on" when you state this this a forum for Ford, however, the thread was about grammar. I never once indicated that grammar & syntax are an indication of intelligence. I went out of my way to choose my words very carefully so as not to even imply this. Winford pointed this out very well and I also added to that message. Grammar is simply usage and command of the English language. If one has to harken back to high school English classes then they are working too hard here.
It is only a matter of how one wishes to be perceived in this forum.
No big deal. Everyone has their own level of self satisfaction, and it has nothing to do with intelligence. Some may say "if the shoe fits then wear it". I make no judgements at all. I only observe and respond accordingly. This is one reason why I enjoy this forum.

Boy shure sounds like some one that doesn't pass judgment sure is "implying" judgment on people.

Welcome to the sunny South!

Lots of people get upset about poor grammer and syntax. What's the point? If you met these people in person, would you judge them by the clothes they're wearing? I fully understand the concept of how a person would regard another person by their usage of the language, but the last time I looked, this was Ford Truck Enthusiasts (FTE), not Found Text Errors, or Ford Truck English class. EVERYONE on this website has made an error in their posts, including you brienobrien, But I think no less of them or you. I can tell it was an oversite in the typing.

Proper etiquette is far more important in my humble opinion. Don't use all caps, say "thank you" when someone responds with an answer, and sign your posts. Not to mention refraining from improper language in a "family"-type website. This is what's important. It's the man (or woman) that counts. There are no "tests" after you post.

I have to shake my head. Posts like this always start a big fight. What other purpose can this post have?

A "regular" guy comes home from work where he has had to deal with less than pleasant people all day, goes to his favorite website, and then has to deal with an English Major looking over his shoulder. I saw no rules regarding proper usage, grammer, syntax, or anything related to that when I first came to the sight. I did however notice plenty of rules regarding proper behavior.

Give it a break! Everyone here has a common interest. Everyone here does not have the same opinion. Everyone here ought to have respect for other posters.

The moderators here are patient, gentle, and friendly. I didn't see Ken Payne taking applications.

Fire away!

A friend to all here,

Chuck

Grammar - as if anyone cared.

Everybody has some grammatical (sp?) errors, but like it was said before, this isn't "Proper English" class, it's a Ford truck forum. A few small errors doesn't bother me, it's when you can't even read the message because it's so poorly written. Then I'll usually just ignore it and move on. Sometimes I think people need to reread their post and make sure it makes sense before hitting the "post message" button.
