push button 4x4 not working

i have an 88 xlt 302 aod bronco with push button 4x4 & auto locking hubs. i have read every thread and still can't figure out my problem. when i press the 4x4 i get nothing. no clicks, no lights, nothing. i removed the passenger kick panel and pressed 4x4 and a red light came on. what does that mean? is it the module or what? please help.

Well if the switch is working, then the shift motor inside the transfer case may be bad. You can check to see if it's getting power with a MultiMeter or test light.

on my s-10 blazer, the module broke and wouldnt engage the electric motor that shifts the transfer case. my advice, GET RID OF PUSH BUTTON 4X4. I hated mine and it broke everytime I had gotten my engine compartment a little wet. granted that was a chevy, but the principal is the same.

There is a motor on the transfer case that engages the 4x4. This is notorius for going out when it gets dirty. Sometimes you can remove it and clean then all is well....other times you have to replace it. Not too expensive tho.

i believe it means that the module is getting power and sending power to the solenoid, it sounds to me that you got a bad shift solenoid.
